Stony Brook game doesnt mean much. It says more about how good Stony Brook is as a squad. They won 23 games last year and return everyone including 2 1st team American East players including the player of the year and have the projected newcomer of the year in the league. They also took a 10 day tour in Germany/Italy where they won 4 out of 5 games which put them a little ahead of the curve for being season ready compared to Vandy.
