Has 3 years of eligibility left. St. John's apparently recruited him as a face-up 4.

From Rivals:
Selecting the Big East program over Boise State, Kansas State and St. Joe’s, Manuel is a tough and physical frontcourt prospect that can defend his basket, rebound at a good clip and has become better with his face-up jumper.

This guy’s recruiting/commitment history has been wild. He’s out of St. Pat’s in Jersey, where Hurley has successfully recruited from before.

Hurley and Mike Rice are super close.
Yeah, the families have known each other for years and years. They’re cool with each other, but Bob Sr. is the one who’s been more vocal about Rice deserving another chance at coaching. Biruta, who was on of Rice’s targets at Rutgers, left there to play for Hurley at URI, after having played for him in high school. Langevine has been excellent at URI after being coached by Rice, when he was there (now gone) and Chavannes.

Also can we take a moment to laugh at St. John’s offseason for a second...

-Shamorie Ponds declares for draft
-Top recruiter Matt Abdelmassih leaves for Nebraska
-Chris Mullin resigns as HC
-Bryan Trimble Jr. enters transfer portal
-Justin Simon declares for draft
-LJ Figueroa enters transfer portal
-Cam Mack, Valdir Manuel and Nate Tabor decommit

God bless whoever takes this job.

From Zagsblog...

"St. John’s believes Manuel is a better fit for their up-tempo offense than Oak Hill Academy (VA) senior big man Kofi Cockburn, and this effectively takes St. John’s out of the Cockburn Sweepstakes."

“As far as Valdir’s skill set, he is probably the most unique player I’ve ever coached,” Harcum coach Drew Kelly said. “He’s incredibly skilled, but yet incredibly raw all at the same time. Sometimes it’s hard to remember that he picked up the game late and he’s only been playing for a few years. He has tremendous upside potential, perhaps more than any player I’ve ever coached (and I’ve had over 30 D1 signees at Harcum). If he puts in the work, he could be an all-conference player in the Big East.”
