Can’t help but notice that all kinds of conference commissioners are being interview and making appearances to talk about the house settlements…including a panel where the four P4 commissioners and the commissioner of the not-even-a-conference yet Pac12 appeared to talk about it.

Missing - Val Ackerman.

She’s useless and she’s absolutely the spirit animal of this conference’s admin from top to bottom. They do not care.

But she is moving into the Empire State Building, so she has that going for herself, which is nice. Maybe she wants to keep it low key since the Big East is apparently a winner in all of this, based on the $20 million salary cap and no football. We'll see if that holds up.

There’s definitely a level of complacency in her behavior that is no longer good for the conference. At minimum, she needs to be out there pimping the strength of the Big East as a major basketball conference.

The criticism of Val may very well be warranted but I don't know what else people expect from the Big East. It is the strongest basketball conference without football. That's it. UConn didn't have to join the conference and the basketballs schools that bailed on the original big east, but it did. Many people don't want the Big East to expand, so it will remain the smallest of the power basketball conferences. The P4 could give a sheet about the Big East. We really can't argue depth when it only has 10.5 programs.

Are you serious, or is this a troll?

Big East has 5 very good/excellent basketball programs, (one of the 5 has bottomed out), the best WBB program, and no football. Some small so-so academic private schools to boot. There is the P2, the other 2 and everyone else. She’s not invited and would not be heard. The criticism is unfounded. The TV deal is a good one and b-ball still has lots of juice despite massive loss of schools and rivals over 20ish years. Gotta stop pooping where we eat.

For those very reasons you’d think the Big East would make some noise. Explain how they are different and how this decision impacts non football.
It also spells out why UConn needs a conference alignment that fits UConn’s athletic mission.
BTW, PAC 12 was involved.

Be careful proclaiming five BE programs at that high of a level. We absolutely qualify and Nova (I imagine they are the program you are saying bottomed out) still belongs in that discussion as very few can claim ever having a decade to match Nova's last ten years, even with the Neptune years included.

From there, Creighton and Marquette are perhaps borderline very good. A bit more tournament success would be needed to approach excellent. If you have St John's as the fifth, their current situation gets their very recent teams in the conversation, but that is an entirely different conversation than what they are as a program.

Maybe but she's a spirit animal that makes 1.75 million annually.

The TV deal is a good one

I think being in the Top 25 this past year qualifies you as at least very good, as does winning the league. Sheesh.

The commissioner protested the House payout share for the non-P4, non-football schools and was told by the Sankeys of that world “when we want your opinion, we’ll give it to you”. Don’t confuse leverage (or lack thereof) with talent or hard work.

She's just been collecting checks since the WNBA.

The Big East hasn't had a decent commish since the first one.

At least be visible. She is likely on vacation or shopping for pantsuits.

That may be true, I have no idea. Or maybe the media don't think her actions are newsworthy. Give an example of what she should be doing that would make a difference. Maybe she should have strenuously objected. Maybe she understands the Big East's situation and squawking about it will only make the conference look weaker. I don't know.

“Based on the numbers we have reviewed, the liability of the 22 non-FBS conferences under the proposed formula appears disproportionately high, particularly because the primary beneficiaries of the NIL ‘back pay’ amounts are expected to be FBS football players,” Ackerman wrote. “I have voiced the Big East's strong objections to the proposed damages framework through recent emails to [NCAA president] Charlie Baker and his counsel and through comments during commissioner calls over the past two weeks.”

"While Ackerman and other non-FBS leaders plan to fight for a change in the formula, she is “unclear how much time or leverage” they have in such a battle with the leading defendants in the case: the high-revenue generating football powers in the Big Ten, Big 12, SEC, ACC and remaining and former members of the Pac-12."

F

Funny. Look at the regular season b-ball ratings and tell me why the suitors weren’t lined up with more easy $
It's so hard to say for sure, but if you pressed me to take a wild guess I'd say.... um, oh, I don't know, maaaybe because there are no football rights associated with it?
