Okay back to the game: I have to say that Utah is a disappointment this year. Everyone knew they'd miss Megan Huff and Dre'una Edwards, but wow do they really miss them. Daneesha Provo is coming in off the bench and just doesn't quite have the same defensive presence as before her ACL injury. Pendande is a nice pickup for them but she needs more experience, and more importantly the team just isn't in sync, which is what they had last year and what you absolutely must have when you're not the biggest or most athletic team.
Provo has not been nearly the same offensive presence either. Through five games, she is shooting 13% (3-23) from the field and 8.3% (1-12) from beyond the arc, while she had hovered near 50% from the field and 40% from three in 17-18 and her partial 18-19 season.
Kemery Martin has been disappointing as well, given that she was one of the higher ranked recruits to come out of Utah in some time, and she was Utah's highest ranked recruit ever.
Agreed on Pendande. She has a solid combination of skill and athleticism, but it appears Oregon State's posts bothered her a little bit as she finished 0-3 from the field. She is also prone to foul trouble.
The good news for the Utes is they have two top-100 recruits headed their way next year, including Peyton McFarland who is ranked as high as 12 by ASGR and was noted as a big-time stock-riser.
I'll be interested to see if Jelena Mitrovic can have any effect at OSU, and Andrea Aquino if she ever gets cleared.
