Looks like it's been about even since a quick start by OSU. They've done that a few times this year. Wouldn't mind seeing them boat race somebody that is clearly inferior.

How is Jordin Canada as analyst?

That's more like it, 11-0 run for OSU to start Q3.

After a big 3rd quarter it looks like OSU is taking the 4th quarter off.

I'm watching a delayed broadcast now. Her delivery is fairly dry, she needs a lot of practice if she's planning on doing this. Also honestly she's coming off as biased towards Utah. Quick to praise anything they do, her partner has to prod her to say anything complimentary about OSU. Maybe not far enough removed from having battles against the Beavs during her career.

Interesting. She always seems lively in interviews but of course, this is far different.

I have to add, 2nd half was better. She just seemed really stingy w/ compliments for OSU in the first half, despite them leading wire to wire.

Agreed, I always enjoyed her interviews. Maybe she didn't feel entirely comfortable in this position.

I agree that she sounded a little bit stiff, which is pretty typical for first-time analysts. Reminded me of how I felt about Sue Bird the first time she did commentary in the A-10 tournament a few years back. I'm sure Jordin will get more comfortable with experience.

As for the compliments, well, I think you're listening will orange-colored sound filters. In the first 5 minutes of the game, I counted 8 compliments for OSU and only 4 for Utah. I certainly didn't notice any kind of bias. She seemed to be just going with the flow and remarking on good plays as they happened.

There was a really fun moment at the end of the 1st half when Jordin did the halftime interview with Rueck. After the answering the questions Rueck gave Jordin props for her "first halftime interview" and you can really see the respect and rapport between them. I'm gonna see if I can post that interview here.

Okay back to the game: I have to say that Utah is a disappointment this year. Everyone knew they'd miss Megan Huff and Dre'una Edwards, but wow do they really miss them. Daneesha Provo is coming in off the bench and just doesn't quite have the same defensive presence as before her ACL injury. Pendande is a nice pickup for them but she needs more experience, and more importantly the team just isn't in sync, which is what they had last year and what you absolutely must have when you're not the biggest or most athletic team.

Announcers *always* try to praise the team that's getting killed. It's an attempt to encourage viewers to not change the channel. "No, really, Utah is about to mount a comeback . . . " And, really, most announcers are nice, positive people who recoil at kicking a dog when it's down.

I was at Gill, and I thought Utah was hopeless from the start. The talent isn't there and the coaching is not good enough to compensate. They took a huge step backwards this year and I didn't see anything for Utes fans to be optimistic about.

Provo has not been nearly the same offensive presence either. Through five games, she is shooting 13% (3-23) from the field and 8.3% (1-12) from beyond the arc, while she had hovered near 50% from the field and 40% from three in 17-18 and her partial 18-19 season.

Kemery Martin has been disappointing as well, given that she was one of the higher ranked recruits to come out of Utah in some time, and she was Utah's highest ranked recruit ever.

Agreed on Pendande. She has a solid combination of skill and athleticism, but it appears Oregon State's posts bothered her a little bit as she finished 0-3 from the field. She is also prone to foul trouble.

The good news for the Utes is they have two top-100 recruits headed their way next year, including Peyton McFarland who is ranked as high as 12 by ASGR and was noted as a big-time stock-riser.

I'll be interested to see if Jelena Mitrovic can have any effect at OSU, and Andrea Aquino if she ever gets cleared.

The PBP guy on last night's game said coach Roberts had said Provo had been "trying to do too much," which I don't know whether to interpret as doing too much too soon with her knee, or simply trying to force too many plays on the court.

Which made it a bit troubling when Utah closed from either 23-6 or 23-8 down to 29-20. I want to see more killer instinct from the Beavs. They've had some fast starts to games this year and then go into neutral for a while.

I'm beginning to think it's the country's political climate of everyone complaining and going negative all the time that's starting to rub off on sports. Even on our Stanford board, approx. 75% of the comments are that are women's team is underperforming, not good enough, etc. Nevermind we lost an A-A starter to graduation, have two starters out with injuries, and are playing 4 freshman heavily - if everything isn't near perfect, it's time to start chicken littling!

It seems to me that hypercriticizing and general kvetching are the hallmarks of just about any team-centric fan board.

 I blame it on being traumatized in back to back NCAA Tourneys (men's) by late collapses by Arizona and Gonzaga in the mid 2000s. I probably need professional help. No lead has ever really felt safe to me since then. I admit it, I can be a negative fan.
