Wow. I can't post the picture of him, but if that is what a 16 year old looks like, then what the hell is in the water over there? He looks like a grown man. Need to CAP him w/ the seniors so he doesn't opt for England's national team.

The Ibarra kid from Minn U is really talented. When Sporting played them in the US Open Cup he gave them all the could handle. He also has Yedlin like speed. The Red Bulls wanted him but they wouldn't pay a transfer fee.

Not much time. Jan 26, 2015.

If his father cannot get citizenship before his 18th birthday, all is not lost as Gedion can just apply for Citizenship himself as a adult. It will just take a lot of time.

Very good news for the USMNT as this major hurdle has now been cleared. Hope Klimsnann can bring him on board, i.e. cap him, at the next opportunity. Any chance that Germany will push for him, too?

http://www.si.com/planet-futbol/2014/12/30/gedion-zelalem-usmnt-us-citizen-arsenal

The soonest a cap that would matter could occur is the Gold Cup. He literally just had to deal with the horrifying mess that is gaining citizenship. My guess is that he is pretty set on playing for Jurgen.

Our 16-17-18 year old pool is looking fierce. Throw in Rubio Rubin and Jordan Morris and damn, we could be really good in 2022.

Which would be played on US Soil if the world was fair. Sadly, fairness and FIFA are not often associated with each other.

This Zelalem thing just shows how schizoid American fans and media are. MLS bubble people hate it because JK did his job in attracting a talented dual national to the pool and they have already pronounced him to be a bust just like Julian Green. Also this undoubtedly means that one less MLS player will get called up from this point forward.

I guess MLS should have pulled its head out of its arse and signed the kid before some club in London on the other side of the ocean found him first.

It's both pathetic and fascinating at the same time.

It can't be held in the summer. And when they officially float the winter concept, the big Leagues in Europe, the Networks that paid for a summer program and every other stakeholder are going to want to be compensated. At that point $$$$$ could be the tipping point to overturn this.

True. Ethics? Bribes? Hundreds of immigrant construction workers dying? Fans dying going to the games? None of that will change Sepp and FIFA's mind. Now, if all of the major sponsors (Sony, Visa, etc.) threaten to pull the plus on their investments (equal to roughly 13/ of FIFA's overall budget) then the full report maybe released and changes made. Moving the 2022 Cup to the Winter may also causes issues because both the EPL and several other leagues oppose such a move. Plus, corporate advertisers and broadcasting networks want the World Cup in the summer to fill-up their programing during the traditionally slow time. There is more competition in the winter, especially as the 2022 Winter Olympics are scheduled for the first 3 weeks of February (assuming there is one due to a lack of interested host cities). That means advertisers will have to either double their spend to get onto both events or risk a split audience.
