Should be a very compelling series.

They should have a trophy to play for every year like they do in football and call it "The Real USC Trophy" giving the winner bragging rights and temporary informal ownership of the USC name.

Since they started in 1801....before there was a California.....they are the true USC but I always liked South Carolina or the Gamecocks. You can have USC.

Just curious, does Univ. of South Carolina, any sports team, wear any uniform that says USC on it?

Not off the top of my head. Most sports hats/helmets typically have the Block C logo on it and the uniform typically have "Carolina", "South Carolina" or "Gamecocks" spelled out. There may be some throwback uniforms with USC on it but marketing-wise I know the university has shied away from using the USC logo. Baseball will wear hats with "SC" on them.

Fan gear is whole nother story as there are a ton of USC hats, shirts and other collectibles out there across South Carolina and nearby states.

There are also school chants with USC in it and the marching band has a tradition of spelling out USC during the football pregame ceremony. We also love screaming out USC during Sandstorm!

Juju’s other finalist was South Carolin. Should be a great rivalry as both squads are STACKED for the next few years
Are they? It looks like they both have slender recruiting classes -- Jazzy Davidson and Ayla McDowel -- and USC loses Iriafen, Akunwafo, Marshall and Von Oelhofen after this season. They have a bunch of talented guards, but unless Lindsay can find some bigs in the portal, they will be small up front. By contrast, USC will bring back Dauda, Tac, Edwards, Kitts and (hopefully) Watkins. They will be formidable up front even without any portal additions. And I have a feeling Dawn's backcourt will shine if Milaysia, Tessa and Maddy McDaniel rise to the occasion. I wouldn't bet against them.

The Gamecocks wore uniforms in the SEC Championship game that had “USC“ displayed vertically on the right side of the shorts and “WBB“ on the left side.

SC also has Agot Makeer coming in as well. Both Makeer and McDowell are McDAA’s and apart of the World roster for Nike Hoop Summitt this year and as a pair are considered a top 5 recruiting class. So I think SC is in way better shape than Southern Cal. They need to recruit some bigs out of the portal or I don’t see them being nearly as good as this year.

SC is likely preseason #1 or #2 with Kitts/Edwards/Johnson/Fulwiley/Raven as a likely starting 5. Not to mention Makeer, Dauda and Watkins off the bench.

Southern Cal loses posts but I think they’ll clean up nicely in the portal. Their backcourt is loaded with Davidson/Heckel/Smith/Watkins/Howell. I think they’re likely top 5.

Other top teams will likely be UCLA, UCONN, Texas, Duke, and LSU.

I seem to remember a big win over the Blue Devils in November or December.

Just because you're the smaller version of Carolina doesn't mean you don't have a great WBB team ;)

Id love a rematch in a few weeks

If either South Carolina or UCLA wins the tournament, I'd expect them to be preseason #1. Notre Dame, Texas, and UConn likely lose too much for the top spot. Could see Southern Cal going either way.

You have to believe that the Trojies are going for bigs in the biggest way. The portal makes all of this discussion so premature. Fun, but really unresolved.

It's a two-way street. The players have to want to go there. Everyone wants the same bigs--tall, athletic, stout defensively. Those types do not grow on trees.

What helped Southern Cal these last two seasons is that their big rotation is/was homegrown (Marshall, Akunwafo, and Iriafen were all local elite recruits, with Marshall and Akunwafo staying at USC throughout their careers). I don't know if that's there for them in the immediate future.

You don't think Watkins (if healthy) will be starting?

Who would she start over? Depending on how the season ends, I can't see her starting over any of the five listed.

Likely no, she probably won’t be fully recovered until mid/late season since she tore her knee in January and it usually takes 9-12 months to recover from. She tore it at a really bad time because she can’t utilize a red shirt and it will cost her this season and likely a good part of next year as well.

Is Raven returning next season for SC?
We likely won't know publicly until after the tournament. I'm sure the coaches will know earlier though. Dawn plans to hit the portal hard this summer and has stated that she'd like to know sooner rather than later.

I hope she returns--she needs another year in college, I can't see her sticking with a team this summer based on her play this season.

Her regression this year is puzzling. A year ago she looked like a can't miss 1st round draft pick after she put the clamps on Caitlin Clark in the title game and drastically improved offensively. This season she can't find the basket and is maybe be a 2nd rounder if she were to go pro now. I almost wonder if she's struggled with the pressure of potentially losing playing time to Tessa/Fulwiley off the bench. Next year I think she'll have more minutes with Pao Pao/Hall gone and might revert back to last year's form. I think SC needs her to step up in big games to win it all.

Not to dump on South Carolina (who is still arguably the title favorite), but they went from shooting nearly 40% from 3 a year ago to just 32.8% despite having the exact same arsenal of shooters. I'm not sure if it's the effect of Cardoso/Watkins being out, but the 3 ball just isn't the same weapon it was a year ago for the Gamecocks.

They must have been here on the boneyard for our vigorous U$C vs $C debates.

It's a great idea for WBB/NCAA, sort of like an in season bowl game. We could see more rivalries promoted like this.

Both teams next year will be pre season top 5, and both schools will continue to be able to recruit both hs and transfer market very well. (With all the attention they get right now, and just for LA, the Trojans are very attractive for recruits)

Following the Clark model, team JuJu should get better each year as JuJu continues to improve. SC of course has a great group returning.

Cardoso drew double and triple teams, which left guards open outside.
