I guess my febrile brain got hijacked by the poorly-executed offense in the first half. I did notice the improved play in the second half but I did not notice that the overall game stats didn't have a credit-card-width of difference between them. It came down to 3 more 3 point successes.
I wanted to be upset at the first half play, but I know how personal effort fluctuates, seemingly beyond the control of mere mortals. After 38 years of playing and 3 years of weekly lessons, I consider myself an advanced intermediate in tennis. (Don't play enough tournaments to have an official rating.) There are days when I glide effortlessly to the ball and hit it how and where I plan to with a 90+ percent effectiveness, no matter how well my opponent hits. There are days when I can't at all make my feet move, nor find the ball on the middle of my racquet, no matter how poorly my opponent hits. There are days when both things happen, sometimes on alternate shots.
So, in the end, I salute the team for the grit they showed overcoming the performance lull they had in the first 2 quarters, and commiserate with them that none of the shots in the last few minutes managed to fall.
And, hey! How about finally getting a reasonable number of free throws in a game? They had 2 more successes than the Trojans.
The current rate ratings:
Note that Azzi has passed the minutes threshold. (She sucked up a lot of the oxygen in her first appearance.) So with 9 eligible I'm showing the top 4.
Remember when there's a near-tie, the player with the slightly better stat is listed first.
