Hopefully, several future Huskies in this picture... ;) As anyone following the USA U-17 team knows, this team went 7-0 & crushed every opponent in Minsk, Belarus at the World Cup U-17 tournament. Even in the Final, France's only lead was 2-0 in the first few seconds. USA scored the next 16 points and never looked back. This talented group of youngsters has college coaches drooling over potential superstars in the making. Here are the top 7 most amazing stats from the tournament. 1. Azzi Fudd, who is 15 years old, went 9-16 from 3 point range. That is 56%..!! :D 2. Jordan Horston, who is listed as a 6' guard, led the team in assists (36) and steals (24), was 2nd in rebounding by 1 rebound (50-49) and 3rd in blocked shots with 7. She was everywhere and did everything well..!! 3. USA scored 625 points in 7 games to average 89.3 per game. They gave up 289 pts, less than half what they scored. The average margin of victory was 48 points. 4. In seven games, the USA team has 183 assists or 26.1 per game. Eight players had double figures in assists for the tournament, led by Horston with 36 and Paige Bueckers with 33. Unselfish play..!! 5. USA's defense had 97 steals, blocked 41 shots and gave up only 105 baskets. Opponents shot 26% from the field. 6. Aliyah Boston led the team in scoring with 79 points on 65% shooting from the field. She also went 11-14 for 78% from the free throw line. Haley Jones was right behind with 76 points and Horston came in at 71 points. 7. USA had a team assist-to-turnover ratio of 1.81 (183 vs 101), shot 55.2% from inside the 3 pt arc and outrebounded opponents by 389 to 209. This roster of 12 players was loaded with talent, front to back. In the Final, France only scored 12 points in the entire 2nd half. UConn alum & USA head coach, Carla Berube, had them playing hard at both ends of the floor, regardless of who was on the court. Sure hope she put in the good word for Geno..!! Go Huskies..!!
