Here's a rare but unfortunate comparison. Alabama's woes seem to mirror ours this year. No settled quarterback, receivers not getting separation, inconsistent offensive line play. Even questionable offensive play calling. It's tough to win in today's game with with those problems on offense.

They are similar, but Saban has the ability to fix his with a snap of his fingers - has the player talent, money and program prestige to fix any problem. It’s good to be the king.

If Mora goes 3-9, a few people will complain on the Boneyard, but for the most part the fan base won't get that exercised. UConn needs Diaco-level incompetence or Edsall-level indifference to act.

If Saban loses this weekend, the Alabama fan base will lose its collective mind. Saban is a truly great coach, but he had a lot of help from boosters that were willing to break the rules and a university and conference that was willing to look the other way. Now paying players is not against the rules, and Saban, and the rest of the SEC, is finding that the playing field for talent has suddenly gotten a lot more level.

Saban has not lost more than 2 games in a season since 2010. You will never see another FBS school have a run like Alabama had from 2008 through 2022. It is just going to be too hard to stockpile players going forward.

People keep conflating the TV revenues with the resources schools can use to pay players. Those are two different buckets, both per the rules, and from a practical standpoint. There are a lot of institutional claims on every nickel of TV revenue at every school, and none of them are super-excited about sharing that pool with players. NIL, on the other hand, is the wild west, and has little to nothing to do with the TV revenue.

For example, I could see Boise, the only show in town in a small city that has a lot of millionaires, becoming a major player again because there should be a lot of boosters and corporations willing to throw cash around. Fresno is the only show in town in central California farm country. UConn is the only show in town in a wealthy state with lots of corporations and funds to contribute to NIL. Who funds Mississippi State's NIL? They were big time when putting $50,000 of cash in a duffel bag made you a player. Now, not so much.

I agree but UConn rich boosters do not seem as pumped about football as boosters in the South and Southwest. Now basketball is a different story.

Being sloppy. It is separate. Different mentality in certain places, though. Boostering is about social vanity and status. Buying players for good ole state is big business. There is a crap ton on dollars from various rich people industries flowing into player pockets in the southeast and south central states.

UConn in a canoe, Alabama in a world class destroyer.
Here's a rare but unfortunate comparison.
Absolutely no attack, but the day we have the same problems as Alabama, UConn football fans will rise from their graves. Bama is 2 & 1 in a power conference as we are 0 & 3 as an independent. They are a top 25 team as we have now been again relegated to the bottom 10.
They will receive millions regardless of how the season goes. The existence of the UConn program is on the line, $$$$ no such threat at Bama.

Individual player inequities can be compared among many a team, in many way's. I get it ....... But I sure wish we had Alabama's problems.
Let's see the Dog House with many a fan and have a, Khalid El-Amin WE SHOCKED THE WORLD few minutes. Taking down Duke! :D

Jim Mora is a highly paid state employee.

Nick Saban is the most powerful person in the State of Alabama.

The only difference between UConn and Alabama is that Alabama can fire what ever coach they want and bring in someone better withing a couple weeks because they have the SEC and booster money for football. UConn has no margin of error when it comes to hiring coaches unless one of those hedge fund billionaires in Fairfield County wants to fund football themselves.

There are a lot of differences between UConn and Alabama. I am not sure that a thread detailing all those differences would be particularly productive.

I don't think "SEC Boosters" will be the advantage it has been historically. Throwing cash at the southern State U was fun when they were the only ones paying players and had a huge recruiting advantage. Now that everyone can pay players, a lot of these programs are going to find it a lot harder to maintain their advantage, which will probably cause a lot of traditional boosters to get alligator arms when they are asked to reach for their wallets to fire a coach. What is the point of firing a coach if the next one is just going to go 7-5 too?

Really the only difference between Alabama and UConn in football is money. I'm not saying UConn will ever have a Saban like run at Alabama, but there's no reason UConn can't have success like middle of the road SEC or upper echlon ACC. Money is holding football back because they can't spend the money on coaches that will make an immediate difference.

No cheap shot at all, that is your misinterpretation. The thread title is self explanatory. That and justifies my response.
I will be at the Duke game, actually all home games, reeking it out in rain gear, tailgate and make the Husky walk. This to meet with the team and Jim to wish them well. Pre game.
This to cheer the team on from start to finish! My crew does not leave early. As a side note we are mostly old fhats ; )
PM me and I will buy you a beverage of your choice at half time. That or arrive and get to the walk and we could meet up there with coach and family.
