It's so true. UConn's success has been not only the superlative coaching staff led by Geno and Chris but by the fact that his kids have bought into the whole concept of team first and personal accomplishments were secondary to doing what was best for the team effort and winning. Their ability to determine exactly what kind of "commitment to team" mindset potential recruits had or would willingly commit to has made the Huskies the program they are. Hopefully we'll see some more of that over the next number of years though we may be a bit spoiled in terms of additional national titles. I'm not suggesting there won't be ANY but the likelihood that there'll be a bunch is diminishing with better coaches and better players committing to excellence and hard work who can knock the Huskies off that pedestal.Very thoughtful, as always. Harder to get kids like this, he says, because they and their parents are out for individual accomplishments. Throughout the evening, on the court after the game and in the presser, Geno deflected everything from himself and onto the accomplishment of the players. He wants players who are instinctively like that as well. All three of the kids coming in next year are cut from that cloth.
Live press conference:
They've known for awhile. It's not like Morgan woke up this morning and decided. She's been considering for the better part of a year. The high drama of will she or won't she is mostly for the peanut gallery.I think Geno may have given away the Tuck decision.
One of the last questions he was asked was how big a change next year will be from this year. Geno's response was "Yes, next year we won't have Stewie or Moriah or Tuck.
It came so naturally, I have to think that he already knows.
