I read it and it’s not a bad piece. Sure, there’s some a**-covering going on and some self-serving rhetoric. But the idea of reconsidering the seeding after the first round is respectable enough and there have been a few upsets. The reasons he doesn’t exactly give for flipping Va Tech and UConn aren’t really cogent other than that Aaliyah and Dorka looked great and Kitley looked merely good.

But the fact is the real tournament seeding wasn’t his doing and he shouldn’t be blamed for it. I mean, so many here spent months saying he has no influence. Not that his various brackets would have been any better. And when it comes down to it, I wouldn’t assume upsets are the sign of a bad bracket. The name of the whole shebang is Madness after all.

I take Charlie to be saying: “Now we’re down to 32, and at least some of the pretenders have been exposed. Let the second round begin!”
