Sigh...

Office Of State Ethics Questioning Corey Edsall's Employment At UConn

>>The issue at hand is essentially whether Corey Edsall's employment, and the set-up of father/son and coach/assistant, does not violate the Code of Ethics or even create that perception that it has potential to.

To that end, on March 9, the Board asked its staff to prepare a formal advisory opinion to address those questions. UConn associate general counsel Nicole Fournier Gelston requested that petition be denied during the Board's monthly meeting March 16, but the Board voted 6-0 to go ahead with the formal opinion.

The board is to inform UConn during the next meeting, which will take place April 20, when the advisory opinion will be issued. The process could play out over months, and while UConn will operate with the belief that Corey Edsall's employment at UConn and the unique nature of his hiring is permissible, a delay in the finalization of Corey Edsall's contract is likely. Corey Edsall, who coaches tight ends, has agreed to a salary and he is the lowest-paid coach on the staff.<<

Now we understand why the state of Ct is such a budget disaster. It takes 6 Board members and how many staffers a month to issue an advisory opinion. Can you imagine such an investigation is, say , Ohio, Oklahoma or Florida. Any of those states would find a way to make it happen now!

If he was hired as part of the quid pro quo (Edsall would not come otherwise), I don't see any ethical quandary. The hire was made at arms length. If he was hired by Edsall or through his influence while employed that would be different.

CT suck . Meanwhile, a Vo Tech Superintendent is under investigation for pissing away 7 Million on a PR firm to promote Vo Tech Schools and tweet for her her.

This is the kind of BS you have to put up with when the state is run by p------ys. Just keep voting those liberals in folks. Just keep voting them in.

I'm ultra liberal and I think it's dumb as hell. It was absolutely done out in the open, without a hint of secrecy. And he is clearly qualified for his position as evidenced by his former position at Colorado.

This isn't a liberal thing. It's just a stupid thing...

Simple solution. Make Corey a volunteer coach, Increase HCRE salary by the amount Corey was suppose to make. Then HCRE can just pay his son directly from his salary.
Problem Solved!!!!

Man, this makes me mad. It seems someone has to much time on their hands and typical of how things are done in Hartford. If you ever want to see disarray just go up to the Capitol for a session.

Read about this in the Connecticut Section of the Courant!!! OSE is investigating a $95000 per year assistant coach who took a lateral move to CT, higher taxes and higher cost of living for the same or less pay. How dumb can they possibly be? Where is the motive, the nepotism etc..In addition, Athletic Director Dave (ADD) already had Corey reporting to some one else instead of RE. It's so infuriating that this has dragged on for months. Please join me in posting responses to the Courant article!!!

It's a monument to dysfunction. If there was somebody bleeding on the floor they would be arguing over whose responsible for cleaning up toxic medical waste rather than attending to the victim.
