As I said last night: "UConn will still be a top 4 team when you have you coffee tomorrow:"

As with the RPI, I believe that the rank is not so important. It's merely a way of grouping teams. The important things are the stats on the team sheet.

Oregon still rated 4th

above UCLA and Arizona who beat Oregon and have on less loss against the same level of competition.

Good losses apparently matter more than good wins. these rankings are badly flawed and what ever bias has been programmed into the algorithm needs to be corrected.

Apparently not, when the stats for Team #3 across the board are the better stats, and yet Team #3 is still Team #3. Or unless there's a math here that I am not understanding...

Yeah, and in Arizona’s case, it was a real beat down! Oregon played like they were scared and simply could not deal with Az’s pressure. Now truthfully, I don’t think Az was that good or Oregon that bad but it was a pretty dominant victory. Some of these rankings are hard to understand.

@Plebe Plebe's Lady Lumberjack's
Ladyjacks. Come on now

And yes, "my" SFA Ladyjacks (as @triaddukefan has taught me to say) are squarely in the top 25 of the NET. If you don't know you better talk to somebody! They are having a great season. Just yesterday they walloped the Bearkats of Sam Houston State, whose trip up from Huntsville to Nacogdoches ended none too well for them:

IMO, the NCAA needs to go back to drawing board and come back with another NET formula that makes certain South Carolina will always be the #1 ranked team.

your loss to Arizona State is the only good win the PAC has in OOC play.

I think people are forgetting that the RPI also wasn’t particularly great at ranking teams either.
Ultimately what matters is how a ranking is used, and how the committee decides to rank the teams. We know the team sheets are what the committee uses — and things like record against the quadrants are more prominent than the overall rank.

Also keep in mind that these stats are designed and tested out on the men’s field. MCBB is much much more tightly bunched in terms of competitiveness. I’ve always felt that women’s field, which is really skewed in terms of ability at the top is less amenable to these ranks.

Anyone know if the committee is going to release mid season top 16 like it has done in the past?

The PAC 12 teams started off this season over ranked and the fact they were over ranked is the reason their Net Rankings are still high. Its ridiculous and flawed, but we will find out by the end of the year who should be on top.

The NET rankings do not use prior year performance so is there is no "started off the season" rankings.

Duke moved up to #55 Ahead of such powerhouses as Depaul

don’t know for a fact but someone on here said they do use the previous seasons performance until ten games have been played. Thus, the strength of schedule element of their algorithm remains based on the previous year for some significant portion of the season. Indeed some teams haven’t played 10 games this Covid year.

the NET is royal led screwed up this year. Oregon is not #4. 3 good losses and no good wins.

I expect it to work better next year.
