Updated 2017 recruiting rankings

I sure hope there's another big name we have a shot with, because a top 40 and a couple of fringe top 100 just isn't enough, especially in the frontcourt.

Carlton's been improving a ton. His ranking could creep even closer to 100 or surpass it. Even though it's not quite NEPSAC, the DMV's high school scene is another elite league with nationally ranked schools that play countrywide schedules. If he continues to play the way he has through the end of the season, the ceiling is high.

Did Rivals not get the memo that MAL committed to UConn? Normally when that happens it's an automatic drop in the rankings (Like Polley).

On 247 composite

MAL 33
Polley 133
Carlton 229

Carlton is listed at 6-9 2oo, he'll need another 20-30 LBs at some point to play C

Polley is dropping like a rock, 247 has him ranked 162, wasn't he borderline top 50 at one point?

Rankings may change, but we can all rest assured that JSM will cherry-pick each individual player's lowest rating, bump it down 20-30 spots, and call it their "composite".

Rock Lubin is actually averaging 9 & 6 this year at CS Northridge, he even had 8 & 13 against UCLA

Of course much different level of competition but maybe Rock had some promise

Good for Carlton. He's really sticking it to poor Rakim Lubin.

His ORtg is 91, even lower than his freshman year here. He cant protect the rim either. He had/has no business playing high major basketball. It was for the best.

He ain't 200-jeezus. He's at least 220 right now....

No, he hasn't really moved on 247. You're thinking of Rayshaun Hammonds probably.

Good to hear he is adding weight and muscle

Assuming Diarra gets healthy we will have some blue collar types who like to play D and rebound

Well see what coaches get fired and which recruits get freed up, but I would think a transfer would make more sense considering we'll have 4 PF/C on the roster (5 if you count Polley as a PF) at least through the 2018-2019 season.

Everyone has committed; most have signed. It is January 2017. There is no one else coming as a freshman.

When did vital commit lol

Vital committed as a top 200.

Very different than the kinds of kids Tens is asking about, plus, most of the top players from last year's class committed very late in the spring. This year's class is different. Have a look at the top 100 or even 150. They are all accounted for. Different year.

Just need to pray MAL is the real deal and one of Polley/Carlton turn out serviceable.
I'm praying for a full recovery from Mamidou, Gilbert, Durham and Larrier and a quick integration of these players with Jackson, Vital and Adams. I'm praying for Steve to make a leap on the defensive end.

A Zack Brown who didn't spiral out of control would have been the big this program needed. The injuries and that loss were things outside the control of the coaches.

People bashing our recruits and their rankings don't realize that KO locked up a 5 star top 25 center in Brown (obviously before all of the problems) very early. That was his center target for the year and he got him. You can't bash his recruiting for a kid's personal decisions. How differently would detractors be looking at this class if Brown had stayed out of trouble and it was a top 25 brown, top 35 MAL, and borderline top 100 Polley. What KO got in Carlton after the loss of Brown is actually very impressive, came on late and seemed to find a rapidly surging and underrated talent

Keep in mind Gilbert's red shirt essentially makes him part of this class, which means we'll have freshmen Gilbert, MAL, Polley, and Carlton.

I'd still love to see them snag a last-minute, lower ranked 4-star, but this is a really nice class so far.

This might be the rivals update. He went from 195 to 194 on 247's rankings. Maybe he can creep toward top 100 with strong play, not hugely important other than it shows he's getting better and has a higher ceiling maybe

Will be some good front court competition with SE, JD, Diarra, Polley and Carlton next year

Updated composite rankings

MAL 32
Polley 132
Carlton 168 (up 61 spots)

It's probably going to have to be enough, because there isn't really anybody left who we are involved in. We could potentially had a grad transfer or JUCO player but I'm pretty sure those aren't the big names you are looking for. Here's the thing though, right now with no changes we have two scholarships for next year. They are the same two scholarships remaining for 2018. There are some good players we are pursuing in 2018. Would we want to use both of them up next year and potentially have no scholarships for 2018?

I really like Shawn Olden. Haven't seen much tape but I know he had a strong freshman year out west before going Juco and the Pepperdine fans saw him as future of program when he left. I want a shooter. Never can have enough and Vital doesn't shoot it as well as I hoped (still like him a lot).

I am heqring carlton could be easily ranked in the low 80s by spring. He is Killing it
Great to hear. In a recent interview I heard DJ Harvey talk about what a luxury it was to have a "dominant big" in Josh Carlton. Don't think that would have been said a year ago.

DJ Harvey would have been a coup. Said he chose ND because Brey was there for all his games this summer. Kind of an opportunity cost of chasing Diallo.

They did a great job of finding Carlton before blowing up though.
