As many of you may recall, I've been tracking the Program of the Decade rankings and updating my results after the conclusion of each season since 2010. UConn has held a lead in the rankings from the start by virtue of winning it all in 2010, and the streak of #1 seeds and four additional NCs has only extended the lead.

That being said, here's something that may surprise you: the Huskies have NOT sewn up the #1 ranking for this decade- not yet. However, UConn is very, very close.

Here is how I had the Team of the 2010s standings through/ as of April 2016 (in this thread):

1. UConn (620)
2. Notre Dame (390)
3. Baylor (330)
4. Stanford (305)
5. Tennessee (235)
6. Duke (170)
7. Texas A&M (165)
8. Maryland (165)
9. Kentucky (145)
10. South Carolina (140)

Given the above, as of the 2015-16 season, UConn had earned 620 total rankings points to Notre Dame's 390. With three seasons remaining, then, ND had the potential to claim 690 points by the end of the 2010s. Meanwhile, UConn would clinch #1 for this decade by capturing 75 rankings points over the course of 2017, 2018, and 2019. Alternatively, ND would help UConn's cause by sacrificing "opportunity points"; anything less than a #1 seed and a NC in each of these final three WCBB seasons means ND cannot score its current theoretical maximum of 690, while UConn could help itself by accumulating 70 or more to clinch regardless of what ND does. Any combination of 70 earned points or opportunity points means UConn is the Program of the Decade.

Let's say UConn gets a #1 seed in the 2017 NCAA Tourney, then. If that happened, UConn would already have 30 of the requisite 70 to clinch #1 for the decade (and if ND doesn't win it all, 70 won't be the requisite number for the Huskies). However, as we know, the Huskies are recruiting so well and return so much talent that 2018 and 2019 will be seriously points-amassing.

We are just biding our time, but I would be surprised if UConn has not clinched #1 by the conclusion of this season. What's more, speaking of conclusions, UConn being officially Program of the 2010s is nevertheless pretty much forgone. Stay tuned...

I vaguely remember the original thread, now I have to suggest you recalibrate the scoring methodology that would lead you to this conclusion.

If ND finishes off this decade with three NCs and three #1 seeds, the Irish would amass 300 additional points. All UConn would have to do in that scenario is accumulate 70 points, or about 25 points a season. That is *almost* certainly going to happen. However, nothing is guaranteed unless/until it does.

I'll revisit in April 2017.
