"We're now poised to get the rules stricken that prevent conferences and schools from making NIL payments," said Steve Berman, one of the lead attorneys for the plaintiffs. "That's going to be huge for these athletes."

Do the SEC & B1G take a chunk of money off the top of their new TV deals and use it for NIL?

The NCAA is going to lose, so I don't know why it is fighting this case. If it really wanted to make things difficult for the players, it would demand that they unionize and the NCAA will negotiate collectively with a single entity. That would start an epic spit show among the athletes.

As for Mr. Berman, it may be huge for some athletes. Most of the athletes will end up worse off, and this will lead to additional litigation. A few schools may be willing to part with some TV money, but the reality is that all of that TV money is already spoken for at the big universities, and none of them are too excited about cutting players in on the pie.

Some organization has to put some rules in place, because we are not far off from players leaving for other teams in midseason.
