Somehow Clark has made it into this discussion, and maybe that makes some sense. We’re talking about a particularly awesome version of the Huskies, and Clark is a ‘pretty good’ player, too. @visitingcock’s response is more or less the one I’ve made before. Paige and Clark have similar accomplishments. Still, I much prefer Paige as a player and a person. She did what she did in the face of two tons of adversity. But perhaps I should’ve included a forecast for Iowa in my original comment. Others have suggested Stuelke and O’Grady will more than make up for the loss of Czinano and Warnock. I don’t agree. Stuelke is ready to step into a starting role, though she hasn’t been the clutch shooter Warnock was. Still, she is an excellent defender and rebounder. O’Grady is not ready to be their 30 min/g post presence. She is too slow and doesn’t have the array of post moves Czinano had perfected. Bluder is an excellent coach and may be able to get more from O’Grady, but that is still more of a wish than a reality. Without a strong frontcourt, Iowa’s backcourt will come under intense pressure. Recall the game UConn played against them. Aaliyah shut down Czinano single-handedly (Dorka was injured) and Nika successfully contained Clark. The game was close because Martin had the perimeter shooting game of her life. It wasn’t enough, and it’s not likely she’ll be able to bail out Iowa on a regular basis. Oh, and Azzi outperformed Clark statistically (and in reality) by a wide margin. Lou and Caroline pitched in, too. Iowa’s backcourt is not going to be in the same league as Nika Paige Azzi Caroline KK Ashlynn, which means there will be too much pressure on their frontcourt. Accordingly, I think Iowa will be good enough to come in third in conference, beating teams that can’t apply enough pressure. And they may make the sweet sixteen. In other words, their season will be comparable to LSU’s but without all the transfer noise.
