With conference realignment rumors swirling, North Carolina took the unusual step Tuesday of saying it wants to stay in the ACC "for another 60 years at least."

North Carolina athletic director Bubba Cunningham sent an email reply to Tar Heels fans in an attempt to calm a flurry of rumors that had UNC possibly headed to another conference.

As I mentioned in the other thread, I believe the ACC has a rule that a school must deposit the exit fee in escrow upon BEGINNING discussions with another conference. As a result, every school will deny, deny, deny they are even thinking about leaving.

RT @GabeDeArmond: Talked to #MizzouAD Alden. He says no one from Missouri has spoken with SEC. Big 12 AD's to have conf call at 3 pm

Carolina is a charter member of the Atlantic Coast Conference and we believe the ACC is the finest conference in the nation. The ACC has been our home for nearly 60 years and we want it to be our home for another 60 years at least. Our speculating on what other league may be better for the Tar Heels would not be productive. We are part of a great league with a strong future and we know that the ACC leadership is serious in its efforts to strengthen the conference and position it for long-term success."

The ACC can easily succeed if the right moves are made. It can be the equivalent of an east coast version of the PAC-12. Notre Dame can anchor the conference. From Notre Dame's perspective, this IS the best conference for them. It is in their best interests to make sure it survives.

why does it matter that mizzou hasn't spoken to someone from the sec in a few days? they're not going back to the big 12.

Showing that the school sends out its athletic directors to do the lying, while the school president is working behind the scenes.

Here, the statement from UNC was put out by its athletic director, not its chancellor.

This also in: Randy Edsall will stay at UConn for as long as we'll have him, Lane Kiffin can't wait to sing "Ole Rocky Top" after beating Florida, and Charlie Weis will give all incoming recruits a decided schematic advantage.

I don't see how the B1G can take UNC when they claim they care about academics and UNC has performed acts that rightfully should cost them their accreditation (although they obviously won't). UNC is more crooked than Miami. In the big scheme of things paying athletes isn't nearly as crooked as creating a fraudulent academic department for the sole purpose of passing illiterate athletes.
