They're playing the 0-8 New Orleans Privateers (Sagarin 347).

Does UNC have a paid staff flunkey to corral the weakest Div 1 teams in the country so they can beat them up? Why don't they play the Special Olympics team, while they're at it?

New Orleans is in the Southland Conference (you go there when you're kicked out of the AAC)
As others have beaten me to the punch they are a punchless 0 and 8.
But this quality of opponent was on the docket for all the top-25 teams this weekend, with the exception of Penn State, A&M

The drumbeat of impossible scheduling continues.

And people complain about UConn's schedule....

Any one know what the record for points in 1st half is?

Actually their schedule is much improved this season.... they play South Carolina this week... i think wed or thursday.

I can only deduce that UNC must be really, really, really good.

Long Beach state outscored San Jose State 149-69 in 1987, they scored 80 points in a half, not sure whether first or second.

In that game Cindy Brown scored 60, the NCAA single game record. (if you can believe Wikipedia - I wrote it, so I'll let you decide whether that makes it more or less believable :)

Looks like it was first half, according to the LAT

That's insane. Almost 150 points in a half combined? That would mean both sides traded buckets every 15 seconds or so for an entire half.

Sorry, I misstated the results (then edited with a correction), conflating the final score for one team with the halftime for the other. It was 80-29 at the half. Which means UNC had a larger halftime lead, 53 points versus "only" 51.

Aside from the blowout score, the stats reveal the extreme difference between these two teams.

Rebounds, 52-15.

UNC had 22 steals.

To their credit, UNC played 12 players, all for 12+ minutes. The free substition did not stop the carnage.

Attendance figures not yet available. Guess why.

I think New Orleans might have done better if they played and stopped music through out the game. That way the Tarheels might have thought they were playing musical chairs and would have spent all their efforts positioning themselves to sit when the music stopped. Also the eye patches and Parrots on the shoulders of the Privateers might have seriously hindered their ability to play a very effective defense.
