... but yeah, why aren't we after this girl?? Last i heard she de-committed from Tennessee... Hoopgurlz has her at 6"2, and a guard at that.. If Geno hasn't started the campaign of getting her, I think he should.

I think she is headed to Kentucky or Georgia. Just my guess. I don't believe she expressed any interest in UCONN.

Without a doubt Geno and staff have their reasons. No need for us to know.

I think the reason is probably that she never expressed interest in UCONN so Geno and staff didn't waste their time.

That is certainly one possible and maybe even likely possibility.

Kaela is just one of the players that has no interest in UConn.

The pool of outstanding HS players who are at least interested in UConn is very large. Geno is wise to mine that lode and not waste time on the others.

I asked this question a while back........Why No Interest In Kaela Davis? She's Ranked # 2 by Hoopgurlz, higher than DeShields. I would think that UConn could use such a talented player. She de-committed from Tennessee and appears available to talk with any interested school. And since we have no Commits for 2013 , she would be a great "Get".

I trust in Geno and Chris........So if they are not recruiting her they must have a good reason.

She isn't interested in UConn. I'm not sure why that isn't difficult to understand.

In honor of summertime ramblings, I'll share my personal theory. I'll even call it a conspiracy theory, so people can put it in proper looney tunes context if they wish.

I think the bottom line reason, as others have suggested, is that Ms. Davis never showed any interest in UConn, so UConn focused elsewhere. My theory pertains to the reason for the lack of interest.

The narrative starts way back in 2003. Brittany Hunter's stepdad, who posted on the boards as Newbie1, is trying mightily to swing Britt, who has a preference for UConn, in the direction of Duke. He develops a hatred for Geno in the process, using anything he can think of as an excuse to badmouth the UConn coach. This continues after Britt's commitment, and he goes so far as to suggest he's engaging in a "Big Bad Wolf" campaign to influence other parents of prominent players against UConn.

Newbie succeeds, temporarily, in getting Britt to Duke. But she eventually transfers to UConn, where she's wanted to be all along. Newbie eats enough crow to accompany her onto the Gampel floor for senior night. He at some point claims he was only woofing with the Big Bad Wolf campaign with the object of annoying and consternating UConn fans (who, needless to say, return his love).

Britt's immediate successor as NPOY is another Midwestern player, Candace Parker. Newbie runs his own chatboard or blog or something in Ohio, is very active in Midwest high school girls' basketball circles. My conspiracy theory begins to solidify when posters on the orange board chortle and snicker over how Mr. Parker has snubbed Geno in a recruiting season encounter, supposedly insulting and walking away from him. If true, why do this?

The Davis and Parker families are longtime close, both living in Napierville, IL before the Davises move to Georgia. No doubt in the world they talk recruiting. Ms. Davis early on commits to Tennessee, following in Ms. Parker's footsteps. She later decommits. For whatever reason, neither Ms. Parker nor Ms. Davis ever show the slightest interest in UConn or have anything good to say about it. This seems an odd contrast to many of the top players before and since.

So, like any good conspiracy theorist, I insist, until proven wrong, on connecting those dots. The Big Bad Wolf ended up in hot water, but not before he'd been bad for a while.

Good conspiracy theory, sounds plaus. to me. To further add KD I believe is Crystal Dangerfield's God Child. What would have been the odds 1 year ago that both players,Diamond and KD, would shun Knoxville?? Remember DD's Mom is a former track star at UT. When dealing with teenagers, they don't always plausibly make decisions. Except for one GLARING example, we have been lucky in this regard.

If your Big Bad Wolf theory is true, then I suggest we should be after recruits who are considered.... a "Brick House".

Hmm. When seeking "husky" players . . .

What was the old phrase? "Built like a brick s***house?"

Thanks for sharing that, conspiracy theory or otherwise. I knew about Newbie and Hunter; I did not know some of the other details here. This provides an excellent scapegoat for the Boneyard. Anytime anything in regards to recruiting does not go our way, like when Appel's father slipped on the ice, I say we claim it's Newbie's fault!

Great Post, JS, and if I may steal some of your words ("In honor of summertime ramblings, I'll share my personal theory") my own "personal theory" is this: it is by "connecting the dots" (as you also say) that I've understood some of the strangest aspects of my life and learned the most valuable lessons.

It is very important to pay attention to the (seemingly insignificant) episodes that make up this school we call life. I too remember the Hunter saga well so, to me, your theory is quite valid.

Brilliant! I have no doubt Newbie poured water on the steps.

Reminds me of the time he advised Ariel Massengale's dad, "Make sure you demand playing time guarantees during your interview with Geno. He likes parents who are involved and think ahead."

..and, people think we're reaching when we exhume "Ivana Stepovaya" and Gillian Goring! This is great, JS! Another classic chesnut reference to work into our repetoire. "Who knows what evil lurks in the heart of Geno? The Newbie knows!":)

It'll be like "7 degrees of seperation with Kevin Bacon", except with basketballs.

Yes, yes. And what about the mass migration to UNC, including our own coveted DeShields? UNC is the hated rival of Duke, where his daughter was less than satisfied. Why not kill two birds with one stone, so to speak? Everything starts to become clear now.

Kaela is a tremendous athlete and competitor. I don't think the door is even close to closed that she will come back to UT.

If she stays away, she will most likely commit to Georgia.

This girl grew up in an orange bedroom and loves the lady vols. I don't begrudge her for wanting to look around.

I think with things getting a bit more settled in Knoxville, the prospect of landing her increased quite a bit.

Players de-commit for all kinds of reasons. My somewhat informed opinion thinks that Kaela wanted to see what else was out there in order to compare what she experienced at Tennessee.

I agree. That must be the case........She has the talent but no interest.
