Um, Paterno is near death?

He lived for PSU, the scandal ultimately will be the cause of his death.

He has lung cancer and he is 85, he was not going to live forever. Have dealt with cancer too many times, I suspect he stopped fighting when the scandal broke. That said he was not going to live forever. What killed him was smoking.

Without knowing anything much, I'd wager that his firing just caused him to give up. Death by broken heart.

Cancer is a scary, scary thing. Way too many good men have not been able to defeat it.

Was this the reason for the recent $100k donation he made recently?

I'm going to go with the fact that he's 85 and has lung cancer, but I don't know, maybe I'm crazy

Perhaps he decided to quit battling cancer when he was fired? Hence my statement that he gave up. Wow, that's two threads in a row where you've tried to make me look stupid and failed miserably both times...

Family spokesperson said Paterno is in "serious condition".

Additional details are coming from "other sources".

Perhaps? How would you know? You wouldn't. Chances are he's 85, has cancer, and it's killing him. There's nothing abnormal about that scenario for anyone to draw any other conclusion.

The fact that he tried to fight cancer at the age of 85 hastened his demise.

The internets is now on fire over his current condition. Often stories like this just don't pop up by mistake, sadly.

It's too bad he's gonna croak before he gets to be grilled on national TV by someone who wouldn't suck up to him. Almost seems like karma, doesn't it?

Maybe he doesnt wanna sufer from the cancer and go out peacefully, my grandfather passed at the age of 85 from cancer.

People from the hospital have told posters at BWI

It seems other sources are reporting it as well now. R.I.P. A great man, who lived a great life. His legacy will be tainted, and rightfully so, but let's not let one mistake (granted, a big one) cause us to forget all the good he did.
