Baseball players and hockey players play in summer leagues.  Presumably basketball players do to.  But you didn’t get hauled back to campus for the summer to take quasi-classes but really to train.  And there is no spring football.   There were a few guys who played football in the fall and baseball in the Spring. Not a whole team of course, but one was a Dan Hurley in at least 1 game I saw. The other was on the roster.  No idea if he ever played since I didn’t follow that closely.  It just is a totally different environment.  Not less competitive.
