Geno's perfection.jpeg

A post this week mentioned Geno's record since the 2013-14 season was 176-2 and attributed the stat to me. Honestly, I don't remember what I ate for breakfast & so I have no idea if credit is deserved for that tidbit. So here are the facts:

2017-18 record 24-0 (so far)
2016-17 record 36-1
2015-16 record 38-0
2014-15 record 38-1
2013-14 record 40-0

So that would make Geno's record 176-2 in his last 178 games. That is a winning % of 98.87% and counting. If you want to include the last 6 games of 2012-13, when UConn rebounded from a Notre Dame loss to win Stewie & company's first National Championship, their record over the last 184 games is 182-2 with 4 National Championships.

I feel better now....

Nice work. Dawn got to SCar in 2007-2008 right? That was her first season there?
I think she became HC in 2008-2009, the beginning year of my study. Her early years were definitely a drain on her overall stats. She went 10-18, 14-15, and 18-15 in her first 3 years at SC.

And I know Geno would be the first to thank all the helpful consultant coaches who offer winning advice here on the BY.

Well imagine what Geno's winning percentage would be if you tossed out his early years? Meanwhile Dawn already had experience playing and as a head coach when she got to South Carolina. Oh yeah and all the resources of an established P5 school and everything that goes along with that. When I look at Geno and CD's record, this is what comes to mind for me how most of the 135 losses were in the first years coaching at a school that was barely a blip on the map.

I know all too well that Geno averaged 13 losses per year over his first 3 seasons as head coach.
