>>Former UConn outfielder George Springer (2009-11) has added yet another accolade to his historic 2013 minor leage campaign, taking home the MiLBY Award for Offensive Player of the Year. Minor League Baseball announced the honor today (Oct. 24). Springer’s award comes after hitting .303 with 37 home runs, 108 RBIs and 45 stolen bases across the highest two minor league levels of the Houston Astros organization.
Per minor league baseball, “MiLBYs are the end-of-season awards that honor the best players, teams and performances of the Minor League season.” Springer was honored as the MiLB.com staff choice for Offensive Player of the Year, while Tigers prospect Devin Travis won the fan’s choice.<<
