Forde is a trainwreck. Dropping to FCS decreases scholarships i.e. no real costs and decreases revenues in the form of attendance and buy game money and sponsorship deals and donations while still requiring the same operating costs in the form of facilities and coach's salaries and gameday operations.

He outlines the past failures of Hathaway and really Warde as a reason to be upset with Benedict when Benedict is the guy who got them to the Big East, is reducing traveling costs, increasing attendance for MBB, securing buy games, and getting more P5 programs to the Rent as a way to reduce the subsidy and university support.

Forde started the book report but failed to actually read past pg.1 of any reference material.

Not sure I will read this...off the top - since we have national notoriety we are an ideal program to pen a certain type of story in these challenged times where many many many college athletics programs have gotten way over their skis financially.

Well he's right about the coaching hires. Most of the rest is off base.

The focus on the bonuses is misleading. They might be weird, but even with them we're paying low coaches salaries. He makes it seem like we're just throwing money at them.

Well if Florida State drops any sport, I expect the same type of treatment from the national media. They owe Taggert 20 million for 2 seasons worth of work.

This makes no sense. FB failure of not getting a P5 invite occurred during its best FB run in history.

The failure made a return to the BE possible. And that failure was by the AAC in not getting a better TV deal.

The FB record hasn't affected the school or the AD anywhere but in the stands. KO tanking the BB team is the real kick in the nuts.

Pat Forde is a horrid writer and this hit piece is his way of using his platform to hit back at UConn and Randy Edsall. SI is going in the tank and Pat Forde is contributing his part in its destruction.

The Clemson fan asked would joining the ACC have saved UConn.... Um, yes. There are about $30 million reasons why that question is a no brainer.

It would have saved UConn financially. But we'd have been struggling to win games in either hoops or football the last few years. Our bad coaching hires of P, Diaco and Ollie weren't about money. And bad hires will kill you no matter how much money you're getting for TV. Only the Edsall rehiring can be blamed on financial limitations.

Pat Fordes kids are all D1 swimmers in scholarships. Daughter is NCAA Champ in 500 free. He should not be writing about college Athletics on a for profit platform

Nothing new here. A typical Pat Forde hit piece.

It will get wide coverage though. This is the sort of piece that is the exception to that old bromide that "there is no such thing as bad publicity."
