Senior Leadership is a given at UConn and this year's sole surviving seniors, Hartley and Dolson, have continued that great tradition. Joining them have been the sole surviving "Super Sophs", Stewie and MoJeff, to form the UConn "Core Four." This group are the only players to start and play in all 21 games this year. For your pre-game snack consider the following:

1. Hartley, Dolson, Stewart and Jefferson have played 2,509 minutes or 60% of UConn's game time.
2. The "Core Four" have grabbed 56% of the rebounds and blocked 63% of shots this season.
3. Even more impressive, together they have 159 steals or 73% of the team total.
4. They are the four leading scorers for UConn and have 1,202 points this season. In comparison, UConn opponents have only 1,012 pts total.
5. Against USF last game, two of the Core Four, Hartley and Stewart, outscored USF 55-53 all by themselves.
6. In addition to scoring 68% of the team's points, Hartley, Dolson, Stewart and Jefferson have 309 assists or 75% of UConn's total.
7. Together, these four shoot 51% from the field w/ 462 baskets and 74.4% from the free throw line w/ 198 made free throws.
8. The "Core Four" average 57.3 points per game, playing 30 minutes on average. That scoring alone would have beat 18 of UConn's 21 opponents this year. Only Duke (61), Rutgers (64) and Oregon scored (68) scored more than 57 in any game. And they took 40 minutes to score their points.

Go Huskies..!!

Fine post David...especially in comparison to some other posts, which are laden with High Fiber Content that discombobulates the cognitive digestive system.

So David - we are going all 'English' now are we? Providing dining pleasure for AFTERNOON tea rather than our morning coffee! Well, excuse me for being soooo impatient.

And my take away from the above is that obviously the dreadful rebounding Geno complains of is squarely on the shoulders of this core four!!! 60% of the minutes and a miserable 56% of rebounds! Sack the lot of them, or at least make them run a few more suicides!

Great post as always!!!

Too bad that KML got injured or we'd have a core five...but that doesn't rhyme. Still seems strange not to see her part of the calculations. I hope she finds her way back; sure she will!

She fits in #4 there. KML is one of the four leading scorers (#4 to be precise, Jefferson is #5). David conveniently leaves out "core" in this one.

MoJeff has 214 points, KML has 144.....points scored was the basis for statistic #4....so there....;)
You owe me one "like"... and at least two Hail Marys....:p
