UConn women’s basketball is heading into the season ranked first in the AAC and boasting a number of preseason award winners.
During the conference’s media day on Monday it was announced the team was selected at the top of the conference. The coaches, who are responsible for voting for the rankings and preseason awards, named Katie Lou Samuelson, Napheesa Collier and Crystal Dangerfield to the preseason all-conference first team. Katie Lou Samuelson was selected as the preseason player of the year.
The team’s ranking comes as no surprise after finishing last season undefeated in the conference before ending their season with a last-second loss to Notre Dame in the national semifinals. The team received 10 first place votes with UConn coach Geno Auriemma, who is not allowed to vote for his own team, voting for USF. USF placed second in voting, followed by Houston, UCF and Cincinnati rounding out the top five.
