There's so much to think about and marvel over in this group of interviews. Some of these voices sound new. Ayanna is such an authentic, well-spoken young women. I am impressed by how much she speaks honestly and in the moment -- no rehearsed phrases or clichés, no nervousness, just a genuine response to what she's asked. And Caroline is her best friend -- that is wonderful. Ash never disappoints. I really believe she can be a leader, and being more aggressive on offense is how she'll do it. She's already one of the keys to the defense, and if she can do that on offense too, the team will look to her more. I loved it when Ash said "My mind doesn't work that way." Caroline is such a beautiful spirit. She 'gives herself grace' -- Ayanna used a similar phrase, which says they've been supporting each other a lot. She also sounds like a teacher as well as a coach. it's interesting how much the upperclassmen see themselves as teachers for the youngsters, and how much Caroline thought about having an impact on the game in whatever way she could. And how great that she and Azzi could say to each other "This is our last summer in Storrs" with such a big smile. Kelis is so young! That's wonderful and she'll be able to learn so much in Storrs. I'm envious of someone at the beginning of a grand adventure. And she is the 'big fish' in all the ways that matter: it's a family nickname she inherited from her dad. "Get the ball and go. He hates when I just dribble the ball up the floor." and "I want to learn from them. They've been here for a minute." and "I'm going to have to get my weight up and get some payback." Gandy is such a sober, settled personality. She knows what the path is: "I just have to be a quicker player and a quicker thinker." And she actually 'held back' in high school and doesn't have to anymore now that she's surrounded by other big players. And it's great that Kelis has Gandy defending her name.
