It’s not so much where you go as what you do when you get there. UConn travels on a private plane. They basically spend their time at the hotel as a team, eat meals as a team and then go to an arena to play. The only significant interaction with anyone outside the team is with the opposing team during the game.I'm a little nervous for the team if they have to travel to a southern school given what a hot zone it is. Imagine Paige or Azzi pops a positive test after playing in a game down there and is then stuck in quarantine protocol? Look at what has gone on with the Red Sox over the past few weeks to give you an idea of how quickly Covid can wreak havoc on a team.
All tier 1 personnel on both teams are getting tested weekly, which provides a measure of protection. The fact that UConn WBB has a 100% vaccination rate provides another level of protection. With that said, unless we wrap all the players in bubble wrap, their is no foolproof method of eliminating the risk of infection.
