Stewie and MoJeff.

Back in the very old days, when type had to be set manually, legend has it that some smart typesetters took a shortcut by keeping repetitive passages always on hand and instantaneously ready for use. This practice gave rise to the term "boiler plate." It is easy to imagine phrases pertaining to the Babe hitting one out or Jack Dempsey knocking someone out being all set in advance.

This term, like "carbon copy, " has outlived its practical application. But if now-obsolete practices still prevailed, the folks at The Advocate or Register would have boiler plates ready pertaining to a UConn winning streak, Geno's genius (or dropped recruiting balls), and the excellence of Stewie and Moriah, our resident UConn Badasses. :):)

Always wondered where "boiler plate" came from - thanks. You just learn so much non-basketball stuff on the boneyard!

That little tidbit was my piece de resistance for the day. I don't know how to type those little accent marks and if I dared to suggest a phonetic pronunciation my Boneyard Francofile amis would smack me down like some AAC victim of the UConn barrage. ;)
