@ A MAC team, so MAC TV contract. SNY could theoretically buy in, but ESPN3 is keeping this as exclusive.

I should be able to watch this on DirecTV at the sports bars, though, right?

Agreed. I know this is a lowly MAC game and ESPN has rights but it should at least be on ESPNU in the states of Connecticut and Michigan.

The only way they would possibly (though perhaps not likely) change it is if enough people wrote to ESPN to complain and have them change it.

It shows how far we've come as a program, and how good a job Providence did in terms of getting our games on the air, that we have 11 or 12 games on live television and people are upset that it's not 12 of 12.

I could be wrong but believe if it is only on Espn3 then no. They need to switch it to gameplan so we at least have the option of seeing it at a bar. I am not happy with this at all, was looking forward to watching this game out.

It needs to be 12 of 12. This is not an unreasonable thing to complain about.

O.K. Complain. What %age of Big East teams have 12 of 12 over the air? What percentage of BCS teams? You will find that very few ACC or Big East teams, at least, have averaged the percentage of games on TV that we have.

Unless, of course, you are complaining not because we are behind our peers, but just because you feel like establishing goals no one can reach because it makes you happy..

Lots of good and peer teams end up with random games exclusive on ESPN3. It's not ideal but still better than the Baylor game which they webcast themselves.

Whats up with this? I thought SNY had all their games. ESPN is putting them on the internet... anybody know whats going on?

What's going on is that the current broadcasting deal that the Big East conference stinks, and that our former AD, scheduled a game on the road against a WMU team either without thinking about whether or not it would be on TV, or with full knowledge that it wouldn't be on TV - and scheduled it anyway.

Yet another reason why scheduling and broadcasting time slots, and ease of availability on TV is much more important to teh Big East moving forward than dollar amounts. All Big East schools are going to see a significant bump in broadcasting revenue.

and why Warde's future, is very much going to be tied to how he schedules football in the future. The news that broke about ND being in discussions before changing parasitic hosts, with UConn - is a very encouraging sign, that Manuel completely gets it.

I doubt we'll see what our future schedule looks like for many weeks, until after a new broadcasting deal for the conference is in place, but I've confidence now, that I didn't have before, that Manuel is swinging for the fences in filling out our football schedules - which are WIDE open right now.

We've got one more season left, of dealing with the current media arrangement. My hope is that in the next two days, the announcement will come that SNY has bought into the broadcasting rights for the game, and it will be broadcast live on Saturday.

Every season we have a game or two that you have to watch by hooking up to the old internet. It's not perfect, but at least we can watch the game. If you hook it up to the TV it's better than a regular TV broadcast b/c there's half as many commercials and they pretty much just show you the game. Sometimes they even show the band's halftime show instead of commentary. If you turn on a fan and sit on a metal bucket it's almost like you're there. There were a lot of years when those of us that live out of state had to just follow the ticker on ESPN2 and read the box score the next day. Now I just hope I can remember how to get ESPN3 at home.

Not unless those fans that it affects the most write in mass to SNY and/or ESPN and request a change or cause a stir up. I don't see it happening on SNY as their Game of the Week looks like USF vs Ball State at 4:30. A 2:00 UConn game would eat into at least the 1st quarter of that game. If memory serves SNY's Big East contract trumps the UConn deal. At the end of the day, we are going to have to suck it up and watch it on the computer.

This sometimes works out better in my house. I can watch football on the laptop, my wife can watch something else on the big screen, and we can both spend time looking after our baby son...It's not ideal and I would rather hook up the computer to the 50"er, but we play the hand we are dealt...

The game isn't on SNY because the Mets play at 1:10. This is not new information.

Do you think our football program (and all the other Big East football programs) and our fan base is such, that the broadcasting reach, availabilty, extent that you describe is warranted?

How you answer that question - will go a long way, as to what you will accept to be a good deal, when the new broadcasting deal is finally done.

Isn't this what they established that SNY altnerate channel for? I haven't checked but there is a chance it will be broadcasted live on that station for those who get it. On UVerse it's 1705, I believe.

I don't think this has anything to do with SNY. My guess is that the following is the analysis:

1. It's a MAC home game.

2. ESPN has first rights to the telecast under its contract with the MAC.

3. ESPN elected to do the game on ESPN3.

4. SNY called and inquired about buying local rights. I assume they did, because they have showed their absolute interest in televising any UConn game not shown on Disney and not conflicting with the Mets.

5. ESPN said no thanks, we'd rather have it exclusively online to continue to pressure consumers to pressure their cable companies to cut deals with us.

Probably no more than that. Despite what Carl writes it is no reflection on the Big East because it's a road game and no contract between the Big EAst and any of its TV partners will change that . The only think UConn could do differently is not play road games at MAC teams, and my guess is that if they could do that financially they would do that, but they can't so they won't.

No, it's not odd. ESPN is keeping this exclusive, likely to try and get fans who don't have ESPN3 (cablevision?) to call in and complain.

Sure, it's available to SNY (or anyone else, for that matter), but at a price that's likely too rich to make sense.
