Some of the top scorers in WCBB this season were Ta'Niya Latson, Hannah Hidalgo, & JuJu Watkins. All of them are volume shooters, averaging at least 18 shot attempts per game, shooting less than 50% from the field. In comparison, Paige averaged less than 14. Since the media only seems to report and gush over high scorers, in her last 3 contests, Paige said hold my beer.

Against South Dakota St, OK and USC, Paige demonstrated she can be a pure scorer, averaging 35 ppg, shooting 39-66 from the floor, almost 60% clip, 13-21 from 3-pt land, over 60%. That is unheard of for a player who shoots almost exclusively from the perimeter.

Paige joins some of the other UConn greats in reaching 4 Final Fours.

Currently, Paige is the only player in UConn's history to have 3 seasons with a 20 point scoring average.

With potentially 2 more games in her career, Paige could end as UConn's all-time leader in Tournament points scored.

While Paige has delivered repeatedly with electric Elite Eight performances, she is yet to have a 20-point Final Four game. Her high is 18 in the loss against Arizona in her freshman year. She came up short against Iowa, but I believe we are witnessing a different version of Paige.

Paige had 3 consecutive games of 30 points of more in her freshman year, regular season games. As seen in the Elite Eight games, offense is at a premium as team defenses are dialed in. Her latest 3-game stretch of 30+ plus points is more remarkable because it's happening in the biggest games, on the brightest stage.

Azzi has all the tools and talent, but if only she had Paige's belief in herself and confidence.....

JuJu Watkins looks most likely to win NPOY, but I think we know who the best player in the country is. And if you don't know or are unsure, I suggest watching UConn's last 3 games.

Mikayla Blakes seems the frontrunner for the NFOY, but it's clear that Sarah Strong is not only the best frosh, but easily one of the best players overall.

As gifted as Sarah is offensively, I've been most impressed by her defense. I can't recall a single game where she's been outclassed in an individual matchup. Against SDST, she shut down their best player, Brooklyn Meyer. Against Oklahoma, she made life extremely difficult for Reagan Beers. Last night, not only did she take Kiki Iriafen to school on that wicked spin around basket, but Kiki was held in check after the first quarter. She is a complete player. A superior rebounder, tenacious defender, with cat quick hands, possessing outstanding court vision, and she's cool as a cucumber on the court.

As good a defender as Sarah is, I prefer not to find out how she would fare against Lauren Betts. Betts is so big, if Sarah was guarding, the probability is high she could get into foul trouble. She's too valuable, and has to be on the floor for UConn to prevail against UCLA.

Betts is UCLA's star, but the person I fear is Timea Gardiner. She can flat out shoot the rock from deep. If UConn can keep Gardiner, Gabby Jaquez, and Londynn Jones from getting clear looks, UConn has a great chance of reaching the championship game.

Jana shined against SC. The UCLA game is her opportunity to make a sizable contribution. She doesn't have to score a point. She just needs to put a body on Betts and make her life uncomfortable.

Simply, more Aubrey. Like KK, she makes her presence felt immediately upon entering. Hopefully, her knee will hold up for two more games,

Geno has done exceptionally well dipping into the portal in recent years. From Dorka to LLS, the addition of Kaitlyn Chen paid off handsomely last night. I thought last night was her best overall performance of the season.

Ash seemed a bit off against USC. Could that have been due to lingering effects of her Reagan Beers collision? Beers is built like a Mack truck. Expect a bounce back against UCLA.

It's been a great season, and I've enjoyed every minute. Hopefully, two more games.

Mikayla Blakes is no longer the frontrunner. Sarah just dropped a near 20/20 game against USC and held a senior All American to 3-15 shooting. Blakes got knocked out first round.

Blakes is good, yes. But Sarah's been consistent the whole season. She had a rough shooting night against Oklahoma and still got a double double.

Weren't most of the big awards voted on before the NCAA Tournament began but are announced around Final Four time?

Loved the read. You have a good start on a book there.

At the start of Q4 v USC, I think Geno was coaching Azzi not only for the 4th quarter but for the next game. He knew she had to score in Q4 to be confident for the next game.

:(:(:( sadly, i fear that is the case. it should NOT be necessary at this point ...but i hope it works!

I am not sure how we will stop Betts
Make her catch the ball far enough from the basket that she isn't always shooting layups. Betts can't beat UConn but if UConn puts so much attention her way the others are capable of getting it done. I would give Betts her 20-25 points and focus on shutting everyone elso off. Jana can equal Betts strength and not too many other players out there can do that.

The Zach Edey playbook…agree

I am thinking that in addition to film, Geno is talking to Lindsay at USC for details regarding their 3 games against UCLA. With 2 wins and 1 loss (all with Juju) she should have good insight into their strengths and weaknesses and maybe some recommendations on how to play Betts and Rice.

To play Betts even, have Ice and Sarah hit shots from the top of the key, this will open up inside. Sarah has a quick first step and can drive to the hoop and collect fouls.

Funny thing about big post players, just deny them where they wany to be, move them a foot or 2 further out and their effectiveness goes down. The trick is to do this without fouling. The best way? Get to their sweet spot first and deny it to them. Chances are if you do that and they force the issue, you won't get a charge. It'll be bulk vs. bulk. It pays to have some beef on your bones. Also, you need to know when the spin move is coming, before it comes. Help defense would be nice in recognizing that move before it happens.

Not only does Sarah have "cat quick hands" she has the hand and finger strength to withstand slaps and tearing at the ball on the way to the hoop to garner "and ones." Her mental toughness is off the charts, and she is the most humble All-Star that I've seen in the last 31 years of Women's College Basketball.

I like this year's edition of UConn Huskies vs. any and all #1 seeds remaining in the women's NCAA basketball tournament as "It is far better to be blessed than lucky or good!" These Huskies are definitely blessed. I am also looking forward to the next three years of Sarah's continued growth into whom she is destined to be.

As for Sarah's mom: Go Celtics!!!

Go Huskies!!!

Yeah, I really don't worry about the Bets. If we play our game, we will likely cover.

(still doomed though.)

Also, keep your head on a swivel as their elbows will start to flail when you put your forearms into their lower back (after third or fourth collision to push themselves back into their favorite spot) as they start to run and pivot to push you back with their gluteus Maximus ==> let them make the contact with your forearms/elbows in their lower back (instead of their gluts against you). Be ready to draw the charge, or "pull out the chair" and let them drop to the floor (AE was outstanding on both) but don't let them catch you in the nose with either elbow. Bring your face forward to catch their triceps (soft muscle, not sharp bones) when the arm swing is still slow, and it helps with the offensive foul call as it will show up as accelerating your head backward without damage to your head or brain. Just be ready to drive your chin into your chest (on the way to the court) so your head doesn't bounce off of the court (negative acceleration damage).

Being an old wrestler, I've had plenty of "falling practice" but I always had a (not-so) soft mat to bounce off of in matches. Sometimes, in basketball it is advantageous to NOT be an immoveable object to catch the offensive foul call. Equally important is to NOT get damaged, so that one can continue in the game AND the next. Two more to go!!!

I have full confidence in this edition of UConn Huskies!

Go Huskies!!!
