UConn to Train Teachers to Teach Mandarin Chinese

Love this idea

China pays high schools to drop French and teach Mandarin. If we are not being paid by China for this program, we should look into it. Otherwise we are giving away something for nothing.

Interesting our school kept French but started a Mandarin program.

And, U.S. school systems dropping languages for general cost savings typically jettison Italian and German. Clearly, the fact increasing #s of parents in CT and the States in general recognize China's increasing economic power plays no role in UConn's response to rapidly rising demands for Mandarin instruction. However, I'm aware of UConn and Neag school administrators traveling to China for relevant meetings with government officials, university administrators, etc.

Probably still got he money. For lots of schools, the economics make it either/or.
