Nope.. it's just like a drive.. he gathered and took 2 steps into his shot.

Nah. At least 4 steps were taken after the second dribble. Very quick like when your football coach says, "Get 'em choppin'!" But hey, I ain't complaining. If he is in rhythm and they're not going to call it, cool!

His dribble was still alive when he took those choppy steps (ie his hand was still on top of the ball). That's where people get confused with the travel rule. Your dribble isn't over until you turn the ball over or put your other hand on the ball. He can take all those little steps he wants as long as the ball is either in the air or his hand is on top the ball (or the side.. different officials are more lenient than others)
