Gabby vs DePaul.jpeg

The DePaul Blue Demons were supposed to test the young UConn Huskies last night at Gampel Pavilion. The #1 shooting 3 point team in the country was making an average of over 13 threes per game and had just crushed #9 Syracuse with 19 three point baskets. By the end of the night, the stat sheet was full of numbers that needed to be double checked. And then checked again... Consider:

1. UConn started well, scored often and opened a 31 point lead, IN THE 1st PERIOD..!!
2. The Huskies had a player explode for 33 points..KLS? Pheesa..? No, Kia Nurse..!!
3. DePaul MISSED 33 three point shots and finished shooting 17% from outside the arc..!!
4. Napheesa Collier shot 90% (9-10) from inside the arc, and that was less than the 92% (11-12) she made from the previous game..!! :D
5. The team leader in assists had 10..!! Crystal..? Saniya..? No, Gabby Williams..!! ;)
6. Kyla Irwin outscored Gabby 4 points to 2.
7. Katie Lou was the leading rebounder with 7..!!
8. UConn made 13 three point baskets, not DePaul..!! :p
9. Natalie Butler blocked a three point shot 25 feet from the basket..!!
10. Kia Nurse had 12 baskets. So did the top four scorers for Depaul, COMBINED..!!

Video review has confirmed that UConn was only playing five players, at a time, on defense. It certainly seemed like more, on a night that saw quite a few strange results. Also, everyone was wearing their correct jersey number. We actually saw what we saw...:)

Go Huskies..!!

Wow! thanks so much. Lou was, IIRC, the 2nd leading rebounding the previous game, so this is trending fantastically for her transition to all-round player. And ditto Pheesa's extraordinarily efficient shooting. Geno is over the moon about her offensive capabilities (see also the Geno show posted on another thread). The super-sophs really are super.
