Five games into the 2020-21 season, UConn sits at 5-0, thrilling fans with exciting newcomers, a potent offense and an improving defense. Here are some fun and revealing stats from the first five games of the season:

1. Ono moves to 10th all-time at UConn in blocked shots. - With her 11 blocks so far this season, Liv passed Peggy Walsh with 165 total blocks. Next up is Kelly Schumacher at 181.
2. Paige Bueckers has scored in double figures every game w/ point totals of 17, 25, 11, 19 and 19. Her average is now 18.2 pts per game.
3. After missing 6 free throws in her first 2 games (4-10 or 40%), Olivia went 12-14 in the last 3 games. That is 85.7%.
4. Mir McLean has scored 24 points in 31 minutes of play. She is the only player with more offensive rebounds (6) than defensive rebounds (4).
5. Evina Westbrook scored 15 points in the first 3 games on 40% shooting. She followed that with 33 points in the next 2 games on 60% shooting, including 5-9 from three range.
6. Christyn Williams leads the starters in minutes played (176), made threes (9), fewest turnovers (7) and free throw shooting (9-11) at 82%. She is 2nd in points (88) to Paige (91).
7. Anna Makurat has played 153 minutes, but has not tried a free throw. Only regular without a try from the charity stripe.
8. The Huskies "bigs", Ono, Aaliyah and Aubrey are 63-92 from the field or 68.5%. They are 35-51 from the free throw line (68.6%)
9. UConn's five opponents have 91 baskets, but 90 personal fouls and 94 turnovers.
10. The Huskies have scored 224 points in the 1st half of games & 223 points in the 2nd half.

Congrats to Olivia..!!
Go Huskies..!!

P.S. - In answer to a question below... Olivia needs 89 blocks to pass Stef Dolson (254) for 6th place, 139 more to get 5th place from Tina Charles (304) and 160 blocks to pass Kiah Stokes (325) for 4th.
Kara (370), Rebecca (396) and Stewie (414) are probably out of reach.

What's Liv's realistic chances of getting further up the list with this season just starting and having a senior year to come?

Some more cool stats:

- Liv is knocking down a sensational 81% of her field goals over the last four games (30-37 FGs).

- Christyn has 998 career points. With her next field goal she will become the 47th UConn player to reach the 1000 career points milestone.

-UConn's team shooting percentage over the first five games: 56.74%, reaching at least 54% in every game. The last time a UConn team shot 50% or better in five straight games: 2017-2018.

I realize it is early to draw season by season comparisons but I am finding some trends in the shooting department to be interesting.

Our overall shooting percentage, 56.6%, is far better than last season`s 47.9%. That is in spite of the fact that our three point percentage this season, 34.5%, is worse - 40.0% last season.

Our shooting percentage this season on two pointers is an astounding 64.8%, up from 52.3% from last season.

Three pointers comprise only 27% of our total shot attempts, compared to 35% last year.

In comparison to 2017-2018 and 2018-2019, we are also shooting a lower three point percentage, higher two point and overall percentages, and we are relying on the three less.

Somewhat surprisingly though, the 34.5% three point percentage is only slightly less than the three point percentage for 2018-2019, 36.4%.

Those numbers reveal what we already see - a team less reliant on the three, with a number of shooters who can make the three but haven`t found the groove just yet. It also shows that we have an improved inside game - ONO and Edwards primarily.

I think it also shows that we have more players this year - Paige, Evina, and an improved and more active CW - who can put the ball on the floor and get to the hoop or in the lane for high percentage shots rather than settling for spot up outside jumpers. "Create off the dribble." It is worth focusing on this, since it is not a dimension we have seen a lot of from UConn in recent years. It might be the kind of thing that gets us over the top in big games.

I also noticed some quirky stats from the Villanova game:

Every starter had at least 3 points, 3 assists and 6 rebounds. Four of the starters had either 7 or 8 field goals and between 17-19 points.

Everyone who played more than one minute scored, had at least one rebound, at least one steal, and at least one turnover.

Only three players accounted for our total of 10 fouls (4, 4, and 2), and only one player accounted for our 3 blocks.

Do you know the player that holds the record for most consecutive games with double digit points and what is the record for Freshmen?

Thanks so much for the additional stats. Looks like Stef is attainable but probably couldn't get past Tina Charles.

Good question! Courtney Paris had an insane number of double-doubles, probably 100+ in a row.

Maya Moore would be a good guess. I think she holds the NCAA record for double-figure scoring. I believe she had 150 in 154 games. I'm not sure how many consecutively.
