Eleven games into the 2024-25 season and the Huskies are 10-1 and headed to a big game vs Southern Cal on Saturday. Here are some interesting stats that caught my attention.

1. Morgan Cheli leads the team in 3 point shooting. She is 7-12 from outside the arc or 58.3%. Paige (23-52) and Ashlynn (19-43) are 2nd at 44.2%.
2. Paige has 10 personal fouls in 11 games. Her 330 minutes played means she commits a foul every 30 minutes of play.
3. KK Arnold has an amazing 30 assists and only 7 turnovers. That a/to ratio is 4.28
4. Jana El-Alfy is 6-17 from the free throw line. That is 35.3%. She will improve. Crystal Dangerfield improved from 59% as a freshman to 92% as a Junior.
5. Sarah Strong leads the team with 16 blocked shots. Ice is 2nd with only 6. Sarah also leads the team in rebounding (91) and steals (24).
6. UConn is averaging 22 assists per game, opponents only 11.
7. Unfortunately, KK is 1-14 from three range. But, she is 20-35 inside the arc, or 57%.
8. In the Iowa State game, Sarah, Paige and Ashlynn each had 10 baskets & a total of 83 pts.
9. UConn has been called for 143 fouls, opponents only 123. In the last 10 years, UConn has not fouled more than their opponents in any season. Should improve...

Have a wonderful Holiday Season..!!

IMO, this is totally dependent upon who the game officials are. There are some who fans never notice, then there are some that stand out like a sore thumb.
I am not going to name names (DK, JV)...

Was just going to say, with the officials now adays, it may not improve.

But if UCONN can take a bunch of 3s and shoot 40% from 3pt land......I'm not gonna worry about the foul situation.

Heck if the officials would have called all of the fouls that ND committed they would be about even. That wasn't a basketball game it was more like a soccer game.

I get the urge to blame the officials, and I indulge it at home quite a bit. But once the game passions have subsided, I remind myself of what @DefenseBB also points out, that Morgan has been a foul machine and that the style of play Geno coaches is not designed to maximize opponents fouls.

I’m not surprised by the current foul numbers. Maybe they’re a little skewed but I doubt it’s by much. And I expect the numbers will revert to the mean in the course of the season. And hopefully Morgan will reduce her fouls. I love her intensity. It will serve her well soon enough.

Great stuff as always David. I wish I was as optimistic as you are regarding Jana’s FTs.
Let's not overlook the fact that it's a very small sample size. If Jana makes several FTs in a row and the number swings bigly. (The same could happen in the other direction, but let's not go there.)

Great stats! Most illustrate the great play of some and the areas of potential improvement by others. That being said, wonder how we can improve blocked shots. UConn traditionally has a big that is adept at rerouting shots - would have been useful against ND.

I often wonder how to interpret blocked shots. Are they a ‘last line of defense’ — in other words, are they what happens when the first line of defense breaks down? I think it’s a clear good to have shot blockers. But not getting many blocks any not simply be a bad sign.

One more thought to throw in the mix: Rebecca Lobo once observed that clean blocks most often come after the opponent has gotten past the defender.

Unfortunately, she is struggling with a double edged sword of lack of confidence and bad mechanics. IMO

Actually I believe that Allie scored the record tying 3 and Morgan shot the record breaking 3.
I think, dangerous I know, that the record was 18. Chen hit #19 and Cheli hit the last #20.

Ahhhhhh....those devilish details! But, no, I just confirmed that the record was 18, tied by Chen, broken by Allie and then reset by Morgan.

Led by Shade, Strong and Paige Bueckers, UConn finished with a program-record 20 3-pointers, eclipsing a record set in 2009 by two,
That’s from the ct insider so previous record was 18. So the last 2 shots did set new records. Honestly I wasn’t sure when I posted it but thought they had announced a new record before Morgan’s 3.

Good idea. Complaining about officials is like complaining about the weather. It doesn't change anything and instead makes you miserable. Best to just accept it and fuhgetaboutit but that's a lot easier said then done. Ask Danny Hurley!

Stats are like make up, they make somethings look better than they really are. Most stats help you measure results but don't show you if those results are within the framework of the plan. You could run a motion offense that always stalls are a certain player but that person still scores in the end on a high percentate of her shots. What don't see is because the rotation fails the team isn't in position to defend after a miss and they give upa bunch of transition layups.

When I watch UConn they have one starter that people brag on that is always in position until the player she is defending decides to try to score, the she is usually not in position. That is fine if you have a Jana behind her to clean up the mess, when you don't you give up a lot of easy baskets.

When I coached our team was very successful but one thing I learned thanks to my wife is that when I am coaching I don't always watch the game with clarity. I might think someone had a great weekend because what I was looking for she was doing well but she was failing at almost everything else. When I watched film my wife was right and I was wrong. I think sometimes Geno has this same issue and it doesn't look like his coaching staff is helping him "see" the game.

The guy has more wins than any basketball coach in the history of the game and YOU are critiquing Geno on issues and his coaching staff. He is the GOAT when it comes to basketball, both he and CD are in the WBB HOF, has won 11 NC, been to more NC Finals, Final Fours, Elite Eights and a streak of 31 consecutive Sweet Sixteens, something that no other coach has ever done.
