One key for UConn winning the last 13 games has been the emergence of "players not named Paige" making 3 point baskets. Specifically, Ashlynn, KK, Nika and Qadence have almost doubled their made threes per game. That critical stat helps the offense in three ways.
1. Obviously, made threes add 3 points to your score. (duh)
2. More importantly, the lane and under the basket opens up when more shots are made from beyond the arc.
3. Opponents pay for doubling Paige when she has the ball.
So here is the proof:
1. First 10 games, those 4 players made 35 threes. (3.5 per game)
2. Last 10 games, those 4 players made 61 threes. (6.1 per game)
3. Those 4 players, combined, have made 7 or more threes in five games. Four (4) have been in last 10 games.
4. Those 4 players have individually made 3 or 4 threes on 13 occasions. Nine of those were in the last 10 games.
Year to date results for 3 pt shots:
1. Paige is 44 for 89 or 49.4%.
2. Nika is 27 for 62 or 43.5%.
3. Ashlynn is 32 for 81 or 39.5%.
4. KK is 14 for 36 or 38.9%.
5. Q is 22 for 63 or 34.9%.
Having 4 players not named Paige making three point shots at 35% or better has been critical to the Huskies success. That important stat should continue to help the offense this Saturday vs Notre Dame and the rest of the season.
