A dozen games into the season and UConn sits 12-0 for a number of reasons.
Consider the following stats:
1. Balanced scoring - Azzi and Sarah have scored 222 and 220 points respectively. Talk about balanced. They average 18.5 and 18.3 per game. Against top 25 opponents, Azzi’s average is even better at 23.8 pts per game. But those two are not the only scoring balance. Blanca has 103 pts, Sarah and Ash are right behind at 91 each & KK has added 81 points. Kayleigh and Allie come off the bench and have scored 79 & 69 respectively. Everybody eats…
2. Fast starts - UConn has out scored opponents in the 1st period 302 to129 points. Giving up barely 10 points a game in the first period results in big leads. UConn has scored the most points in the 1st period and given up the fewest points in the 1st period. Good formula for winning basketball.
3. Defensive turnovers - The Huskies have created an incredible 283 turnovers in just these 12 games. That comes out to 23.5 per game. Turnovers keep the opponent from scoring and often give UConn easy baskets at their offensive end. An amazing 177 of those to’s have been steals. That is darn near 15 per game.
4. Offensive point production - Even if the defense was not so good, scoring 90 points per game would win most games. That is 1,077 points in 12 games. Combined with a defense that gives up only 53 points each game, that is a formula for going undefeated. At least so far…
Let me know your thoughts and Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to all..!
Go Huskies..!
