Here are some exciting and fun statistics until the Temple game on Saturday.
1. Geno wants Stewie to take 20 shots per game. In 16 games she has 220 shots or 13.75 per contest. Stewie has played 28 minutes per game and sat the other 12 minutes.
2. Bria Hartley has 74 assists, while Moriah Jefferson has 73. MoJeff has 38 steals, Hartley 31. Bria has 28 turnovers, MoJeff has 29. Very similar. But shooting stats are different. Hartley has taken 186 shots, MoJeff only 117. Hartley has hit on 44%, MoJeff 55%. (MoJeff has 2 blocks.)
3. Brianna Banks is averaging 20.0 minutes per game this year. Last year she was averaging 17.1 minutes when she was injured. Scoring average this year = 5.4 pts vs 7.3 pts last year.
4. Saniya Chong continues to impress. 322 minutes w/ only 13 turnovers and 16 personal fouls. She has 109 points, 36 rebounds, 24 assists, 12 steals and 6 blocked shots.
5. The 3 pt shooting race has tightened up. KML now has 20 3's. Hartley has 20 also (32 more shots), Chong has 19, Stewie 17, Banks 12 and MoJeff has 8. TLAW and Morgan Tuck have 7.
6. Last year, Stef Dolson averaged 7.1 rebounds per game and blocked 58 shots. This year, she is pulling down 10.0 rebounds per game and already has 39 blocks. Scoring average is the same at 13.6 last year vs 13.7 so far this year.
7. Stewie had 35 assists last year in 36 games. She has 50 already this year. Her scoring is up from 13.8 per game to 18.4p ts/game.
8. UConn has 342 assists on 515 baskets (66.4%). Opponents have only 153 assists and 290 turnovers.Wow..!
9. UConn has blocked 139 shots. That is 14.3% of all opponents shots taken. UConn also has 157 steals. Together, UConn averages 22.8 blocks/steals per game.
10. UConn opponents are making 61% of their free throws. Last year, the average was 69%. Free throw defense has greatly improved.
