[QUOTE="CocoHusky, post: 2596801, member: 5823"] That is a very good question. My answer would be a firm "maybe". All of the highlight videos of Christyn indicate she is a gifted offensive player. Like many astute UCONN fans you know that her ability to play major minutes or start eventually will be less dependent on offense (see Kia Nurse vs Saniya). Christyn has some tools, a background, and the recognition that her ability to play defense will get her on the floor at UCONN sooner. The tools include quickness, a solidly built frame and the ability to be ambidextrous. Her background includes growing up a soccer and softball player which are especially useful for quick feet, hand eye coordination & anticipating and reacting to the action before it happens. In one of her most recent interviews Christyn stated that needed to become "a lockdown defender" at the college level. Christyn gets it and we can check off that "recognition" box. Having said all this, it may not matter because of the composition of the UCONN roster in Christyn's first year. Geno has been on the record already by saying he needs another guard to morph into a contributor. Next year the team loses Kia Nurse (a 4 year starter) to graduation. So while Christyn might not be the defender that Geno wants her to be on day 1 (what Freshmen really is) she may still get major minutes because....... she is more of an offensive threat than all the other players contending at the guard position- which in reality only includes Mikayla and Molly. Ironically Molly has the same background and tools as Christyn, but Molly has been an ineffective ball handler and a reluctant shooter. Mikayla has a track background which is probably more useful for basketball than Soccer and softball, but she has thus far been an unreliable shooter. You can't have a reluctant or unreliable shooter on the floor for UCONN, Christyn Williams does not appear to be either reluctant or unreliable . My guess is "maybe" Christyn will be part of the regular rotation next year , average 18-20 minutes per game and play adequate defense in her Freshmen year and get better over time-just like many UCONN players before her.
