-> UConn recently announced that its home football game against Indiana, originally scheduled for Sept. 26, 2020, had been rescheduled as part of the 2026 schedule.
Curious what is happening with the 10 other lost games? They are simply canceled, like the 2020 UConn season itself. The university isn’t on the hook for payment to any opponents, nor is it in line to receive payment from teams that canceled a game before the Huskies did (Illinois, for instance).
All of the canceled games fall under the “impossibility” clause written into game contracts, which reads, “If an unforeseen catastrophe or disaster makes it impossible to play the Game by either Team, the affected Game shall be canceled, and neither Team shall be responsible to the other for any loss or damage. Cancellation of a Game under this section shall not be deemed a breach of this Agreement for purposes of [insurance]. Notice of such a catastrophe or disaster shall be given as soon as possible.” <-
-> The only games in the 2020 that were part of a series were the home game against Indiana (UConn played the Hoosiers on the road in 2019) and the road game Illinois (who the Huskies played at home in 2019). UConn could, but does not have to, schedule a game at Illinois. <-
