My father is thinking of switching from DIRECTV (which has SNY) to Dish Network (which does not) because the overall cost is much lower based on the packages he would buy. If he goes through with this, will he be able to watch UConn's SNY games via ESPN3? Or are they blacked out in CT...

I realize there are other viable options (Slingbox, etc), but I'm looking for the simplest method.

In my experience (Hartford) they are blacked out during the live event.

the biggest problem with Satellite TV is when a storm hits you got no TV at all...you just get snow....

Thanks, that's what I assumed, but I wasn't 100% sure. My dad got some misleading info from the Dish Network salesman about streaming games online.

SNY games are blacked out on espn3 in CT. He could use a cheap VPN to get around that, however, that requires a minimum level of technical knowledge.

I have had DirecTV for 8 years and lost service maybe 2 times and that was for only for 30 minutes or so each time.

Are you 10 years old that you cant pick and pay for your your own cable?

I used ESPN3 for UConn games quite a bit in the NYC DMA (thank you conference realignment) and from my experience if the game said SNY and ESPN3 it was blackedout, unless you don't have SNY available in your areas cable package.

Since you misunderstood, I'm trying to give him the best advice on what he should purchase for himself. I live in Boston. He's in CT.

Thanks - this is very helpful, I appreciate it. Never quite knew how the blackouts worked.

Gotta love Comcast. They'd be perfect if they settled their dispute with YES.
