UConn number 25 in AP Poll!

I'm already annoyed with Johnnies fans on twitter. They've celebrated the win at home against Xavier and being ranked 15 as if they won the National Championship. Can't wait for 2/7!
Always have been the most hated team in the BE for me precisely for that reason, their fans.
With Liam back I think we have a very close game and can win, otherwise who knows?
Once again, I’m a Yankee fan. The Red Sox are in the AL East. Would I root for them in a WS? Wait, would RS fans root for the Yankees in a WS for the sake of league strength? They in our league we love them? It’s ludicrous.

Watch Pitino and their player antics when they play us. Kumbaya.

Our team and school promoting it's self as the basketball capitol of the world, is no such thing. Simply BS banter.
No Way Wow GIF

We are the 6/7 seed in the tournament that absolutely no one wants to play. Probably more like 4 seed by seasons end if things go as expected. Gonna be a fun tournament, first round give us an ACC team that makes it in on ACC bias alone

.-.
That graphic is not correct. Geno sitting there thinking, ‘those are rookie numbers, got to pump them up’.
I should've included one with Geno. Looking at the basketball program as a whole, and not just focusing on the men's team, I don't know a better program to use the slogan.

They deserve to party. They haven’t been there in years. As a Big East fan, I’m pulling for them. A strong SJU is great for the conference and for us, as long as we’re in it.
Party for a 15th ranking in January? Idk how you could pull for SJU with whos at the coaching helm and their fans unearned arrogance but to each their own

The thing I find most interesting is that a few here really aren't factoring in perception.

If you look at what they've done in conference, it really isn't that far removed from what we've done so far (with arguably our best player out for a month) yet, many here are viewing this season as a disaster while simultaneously lauding St John's as having accomplished something spectacular.

This season has been hard. Fans remember the feeling from Feb1, 2023 until 2024 NCAA Champ final.. Pretty smooth sailing other than BE final 23 and tough game with Iona to start that tourney. Can't even remember who we lost to last year. Crieghton and...?

Between the huge 3 peat buildup, and our feeling of invincibility, tough to take for some folks. Realistic expectations pre-season would have led to an overall increase in Mental Health for the fans in general, and Yarders specifically. But her, who wants to let reality get in the way of a good Marketing Campaign.
Threepeat here we come!!

Seton Hall (how did that happen?!) and Kansas. 3 losses total.

They deserve to be in the Top-25.

I know there is a lot of haters out there. But this team is missing players due to injury. UConn has earned "getting the benefit of the doubt".

If other blue blood programs get it, so should we.

EDIT: Surprised Creighton is getting so little love. only 12 votes
The cold fact is that Creighton & Xavier are legit top 25 teams, St Johns and UConn are top 20, and Marquette a top 10 team, with Nova receiving votes. BUT the pundits & analysts just can't bring themselves to admit that the Big East's top 6 are as deep as Big10 & ACC. They hate acknowledging that BE toughness hardened the eventual National Champion during conference play 4 or last 8 yrs. That said, who gives a shit about the top 25? Or what number is nxt to ur name in bigDance?

There of course is recency bias but there is the the "headed in opposite directions" factor at play here too. St. Johns is a team on the rise, have won 7 straight, and have been steamrolling teams recently. The beat X (twice) and Nova, UConn is 2-3 in their last 5. 9-1 vs 6-3 isnt that close.

Certainly as a UConn fan you can recognize momentum. I'll give them their flowers right now, they've earned them. We will see what happens next week. Easy enough to settle this on the court. This is a dangerous St. Johns team though.

Eyeball test, they are tenacious on defense and the boards, get to the FT line a ton, categories demonstrate toughness & consistency.

What team with a pulse have they steamrolled recently?

One of their most impressive results is their loss at Creighton, held then to 57 and had a shot to win, then a rebound and another shot to win. These last few games have been without their starting PG.

They’re good - their starting 5 is balanced, multiple dogs.

They played a close game against Creighton and came up just short?

Now I understand why some are praising what they have done recently while contemplating jumping off the ledge due to what we have done recently.

We might get steamrolled at Creighton. We got steamrolled last season and that was our best team ever. Hurley has never won there...

I'm not looking forward to that game and I'm not looking forward to the two matchups with St. John's. They're a horrible matchup for us and they're a better team than us right now.

I’d be curious to who has the best home record in the BE since Creighton joined. I’d say it’s the toughest environment in the BE. The did lose one game there this year, early to Nebraska.

That leaves us with @Marquette. Need to figure out how to win at least one of the next 3, or…

Why did you describe it as "steamrolling teams"?
Because they steamrolled some teams. Xavier by 10 and 8 , Nova by 12, Georgetown by 25. Seton Hall by 30. Why are you doing this?

Didn't they need overtime to beat Xavier at home?

What I'm doing is basically an attempt to reconcile how in our situation the sky appears to be falling while St John's evidently has become more formidable than the Celtics. They are doing well and over the past 30 days, clearly better than we have been doing. That said, the difference in performances does not warrant the differences in perception that the bulk of this board has for each program at the moment.

Just fully convincing myself this is January 2023 redux. Hard to bank on the same final result, but more about them finding their footing for the back end of the year whatever the end result.
Gosh, no, this is not the same thing as January 2023. This year we lost our best player to injury. We were rolling before that injury. And we have been in all but one game since he went down. This is not the same thing. Now, this is also not as good a team, obviously. But this is not a "January 2023 Redux".
