"Hergy Mayala, Tyraiq Beals, Aaron McLean, Frank Battle and Brian Coney are all guys that can all play really well, winning, productive, football at this level," coach Bob Diaco said. "And then you add that with Noel and Brian [Lemelle], you've got two veteran players who have made plays here and will make a ton in the future."

The 6-foot-1, 203-pound Mayala (seven catches, 80 yards), and the 6-0, 183-pound Beals (24 receptions, 275, two TDs) are speedy sophomores who have experience. McLean is a 6-5 sophomore. Battle is a 6-5 redshirt freshman and Coney, at 6-1, is another redshirt freshman.

Chicken and egg debate we've had on this board for years.

Are receivers poor or does a poor offensive line prevent receivers from showing their skills.

Last year we actually saw UConn run successful WR screens so that the WR's could quickly get the ball in space.

Biggest thing I want from WR's next season is catch everything.

UConn's offense functionally exists in the margins of competency. On the occasions where a play actually has a chance for success, a dropped pass kills momentum and confidence.

And catching also goes for the TE's and RB's.

2-3 years ago the WR were carrying the QB. Last year was kind of a wash. I think this year's crew need to step it up if the passing game is going to improve.
