Not so fast!! Like the boys Uconn woman is a guard oriented team. We have alot of players who can handle the ball but I would love to get another center that's a MONSTER in the paint such as Rebecca Lobo Tina Charles Stef. Is Natalie Butler UCONN next big to be dominant? Are we recruiting any other Post besides Charli Collier? ??

UConn was recruiting Bigs in the 2016 Class but couldn't land any even though there was room on the roster for a Center/Power Forward. Many coaches and others constantly say, UConn gets who they want. They don't as many players/families don't mesh with the UConn way.

C. Collier is the closest. I believe it was @CoachBill who siad her game resembled Tina Charles. Rebecca Lobo was not the center Kara was. Per Geno both recruiting pool & the game are changing-moving away from back to basket centers like Wolters, Charles, & Dolson. Top post recruits now a days seem allergic to the paint.

Would love Collier up north at UConn but I find it some what doubtful that she will leave Texas, especially with the tragic loss of her father............I lost my dad when I was in college and I was thankful that I was only a few hours drive away from my family............there are limited good bigs in 2017 class, (Kushkituah, Cooks, J Williams, Vaughn)............perhaps they go the European route (Reisigerova)...........for whatever reason the best talent in 2017 seems to be mostly limited to 6'1" and under

my belief = that currently UConn has as good a shot as anyone (if not better ) at landing Charli .
my impression to date is that she has quality "recognition" when viewing Top 25 WBB games, teams.

to early to know how / if the passing of her father will impact her Recruiting process.
just an AWFUL circumstance for a young lady to have to work through... esp only just a Soph in h.s.
Her mother appears to be a veryy Impressive , Strong woman. The apple seems to have fallen very close to tree with Charli

Every program in the country (both genders) is constantly looking for bigs - they are a pretty rare commodity, and the really good ones with the whole package of size, skill, drive, coach-ability, and character are much rarer still. In the past the NYC to DC corridor produced quite a few but in the last 6 years it has been remarkably barren. While Uconn recruits nationally, it is still much easier to get players from the local region than for the south southwest and west. That TX has been churning out quality bigs for that same period means that Uconn has had a much harder time recruiting them. Coach Bill seems to thing there is a NY big coming down the pike with great potential and hopefully that may signal a change in the current cycle.

magnifico
Riposare e recuperare ...
Stiamo alzando una raccolta per ottenere un giocatore di basket ... circa 6 piedi 7 pollici ... un'amazzone ... molto forti con i piedi magici

[We are taking up a collection to get you a basketball warrior... about six feet seven inches... an Amazon! ...very strong with magical feet]

They have been recruiting BIGS... it is just that a number of the BIGS are going elsewhere.

some thought UConn hit the jackpot with Butler

Why do you need to take up a collection?

I think the entire Yard can identify and agree with you concern. UConn has enough guards and wings. We need two bigs....or as you referred to them....Monsters. You can never have too much money. You can never have too many good quality "dominant" bigs. We didn't get one this year. We can't afford to miss out on one again next year. That's why I would be looking at Azura Stevens. Not coaxing or smoozing her, just inquiring if she's interested in coming to Storrs. She transferring to somewhere, why not UConn?

They can change all They want. If there is another Dolson or Tina Charles out there get-em!

Wait. No bigs?

Kia Stokes- 6'3"
Breanna Stewart- 6'4"
Stephanie Dolson- '6'5"

Hard to say that we didn't have post players.

Then there were the near-bigs:

Dejanae Boykin- 6'2"
Morgan Tuck- 6'2"
KLS- 6'3"

And then Napheesa Collier @ 6'1".

So seems to me that we've had good success at getting big kids the past few years. Admit to a paucity of true bigs today. We lost A'ja Wilson and others, to be sure. But for about six years, we've had a strong presence under the bucket. Just not next year.

Bigs are a mixed bag, of course, as many of them run more slowly and/or require modifications in a full switching man-to-man defense, etc.

You point out only three and they came to us 4 - 6 years ago. The succession plan has failed, we have to face that.
