Not sure if it's been noted before, but for those who like sports numbers and data analysis, the Harvard Sports Analysis Collective has an article NCAA Tournament 2014: The Most Upsets Ever that puts up the numbers defining the most recent tournament as the most unpredictable of the 30 that occurred since it went to 6 (or plus) rounds. What's more, 2011 comes in at #3 and 1999 at #6 for chaos. Louisville seems also to be the Husky sidekick for chaos loving, as its wins in 2013 and 1986 come in at #2 and #4. The 2004 is the 8th most predictable (or #22 of 30 on the chaos chart) so UConn can win in more placid times also.
Chaos seem to be on a rampage trend in the tourney, as the last five years all fit in the top 10 for disorder. OTOH, the previous three years from 2007-2009 were all in the predictable bottom third for chaos. Probably something to do with sunspots.
