The biggest surprise in WNBA history.

I assume that remark is a bit tongue-in-cheek?

JJ was on a lot of radars at draft time and no one would have been too surprised if she went higher than 6th. I had her at 4th or 5th and only that high because CT WBB fans would have burned down the casino if the Sun had passed on Morgan. She led the nation in rebounding in her senior year, and averaged a double-double in her sophmore through senior years. Her slim build and her mid-major college experience may have skewed her ranking for some.

The surprises have been 1) the Sun actually landed her :)) and, 2) she has progressed very quickly last year and even more this year without Chiney. She is also showing that she still has LOTS of upside ahead of her (credit her terrific attitude and effort for that, along with great teammates and coaches).

The really difficult trick now will be to keep her happy in Uncasville once she's in a position to play anywhere she wants (see: Tina, Sylvia and Elena :().

She may have been on the radar. But she few waves in WCBB, she led her team virtually nowhere. She was only drafted 6th in the 2016 draft, which suggests that she wasn't considered a superstar coming out of- wait for it!- mighty powerhouse GW (after- wait for it!- Clemson!). And she was an afterthought in her rookie season. But now she's vying for the position of best post player in the WNBA. What major post player has come into the league so unheralded? Look at the others: EDD, Parker, Ogwumike, and others. All big-time names before the draft.

Sorry, but I gotta say that this #6 draft choice is a huge surprise.

Probably the best chance of keeping her in CT would be if she is part of a team that
consistently goes deep in the playoffs every year.

Characterizing her as an "afterthought" last season couldn't be more wrong. Coach Curt knew exactly what he had in her, but had little tolerance for her rookie mental errors and she frequently got the hook. Even so, her "per 40 minute" numbers were outstanding when compared to any post in the league. Consider that the WNBA GMs voted her as most likely to have a breakout season... they nailed it. They're not surprised any more than I am.

Once she started playing against WNBA talent, even in last year's preseason, you could see she was the real deal. This year's performance is just confirmation of what we saw all last year.
