Following up on my post of 9/29, Christian Haynes played quite a bit against the Lions in yesterday's MNF shootout - 36 snaps at right guard, compared to 54 by Anthony Bradford. Haynes looked a lot more ready last night than he did in week 2 against the Patriots, both to the naked eye and to the wonks at PFF who grade players. According to SeahawksWire at USA Today Sports, both he and Bradford were credited with allowing one QB pressure, and no penalties (first time this year for Bradford). On the 0-100 grading scale, Bradford scored 67 for pass blocking (pretty good) and 31 for run blocking (his worst score of the young season), for an overall 44.7 score (lousy). Haynes, meanwhile, scored a 68 in pass blocking and a 57 in run blocking, for an overall score of 61.8. That's a big difference in favor of UConn's guy, and I saw that several Seahawks fans were clamoring for more Haynes in the postgame comments sections last night and this morning. A couple were pooh-poohing the idea of him not playing much because he was being "overpowered," which offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb had remarked on last week. It's looking likely that we're going to see more of Christian going forward. His next game is against the Giants on Sunday in the late afternoon slot. Hopefully, he's ready to break into the starting lineup very soon.
