Purdue has had 26 graduates become astronauts, the most famous one was Neil A. Armstrong, the first man on the Moon. But before him were three astronauts that who were supposed to be the first Apollo 3 man crew. They were Roger Chaffee, Gus Grissom, and Ed White. They all three perished in a flash fire in January 1967 during a simulated launch. All three were also Purdue graduates, below is a link.
